  1. Chapter 9 Basic Operations to manipulate Databases • Objective -Understand the basic operations to manipulate databases using the spreadsheet. • Goals -The students will learn how to create, select, visualize, analyze and maintain a database.

  2. 9.1 Introduction • What is a Database? A Database is the set of data of the same kind classified according to certain characteristics.

  3. 9.2 Important concepts of the Databases • Register A register is all the data related to an element of the database. • Fields Each data element in a register is known as field. • Heading Row The corresponding to the row where the names or titles of every one of the fields are located.

  4. 9.3 Making a Database Making a list or database in the spreadsheet is very simple because data do not require a special treatment. You only need to define and create the structure and use the options available in order to manipulate data. • 1. Define the DB structure. Specify in each of the fields: • Name • Size • Type of data

  5. 2. Create the Structure. In the first line of every column in a new spreasdsheet we will place the name of the fields. One field per column. Adjust the width and format of the column to the corresponding type of data. • 3. Manipulate the Data The spreadsheet facilitates the manipulation of data through a formulary from where you can enter, navigate, edit and search registers and fields.

  6. Once the DB has been created, you can perform a series of operations that will let you visualize, add, modify, locate, arrange, or select registers. The basic operations are: Add Registers (high) Navigate through the DB Eliminate Registers (low) Modify Registers (changes) Locate Registers (search) Arrange Registers (arrange) Select Registers (filter) Spreadsheet conceptThe Spreadsheet is the computerized versión ofthe pape' sheets prinied withhorizontal and vertica! iines to be divided ¡n rows and coiutnns.   7. Chapter 10 - Macros • Objective -Understand the function, create and use macros. • Goals -The students will understand the definition of Macros. -The students will learn the basics to create and use Macros in the spread sheet.

  8. 10.1 Macro Concept • Definition A Macro is a small program that controls the spreadsheet program designed or reated by the user. • Function A Macro executes commands, selects data and generally anything you want to do in an autoamtic way and just by using a couple of keys. • Language Visual Basic for Applications is the language used by the software developed in a graphic environment to write Macros.

  9. 10.2 Elemental operations to manipulate Macros Some of the operations to manipulate macros are: Save, Execute, Stop, Eliminate, Modify and Copy. • Starting the Saving Process The sequence Tools, Macro, Save new macro…, displays the window which starts saving a macro.

  10. Stopping the Saving Process The sequence Tools, Macro, Stop Saving, stops saving the Macro. We can also perform this operation through the Save Macro Bar. • Executing a Macro One way to execute a macro is by pressing the combination of keys previously designated. To stop the execution of a Macro; press the Esc key.

  11. 10.3 Creating a Macro in the Spreadsheet The procedure to create and use a Macro is the following: Follow the sequence: Tools, Macro, Save new Macro.
