  1. What is being studied on the Leaving Certificate course ? (2014 – 2015 Exams) • Ireland 1870-1912 • Ireland 1912-1949 (Document–based study) • Europe 1920 – 1945 • The United States & the World 1945-1989

  2. Document–based study • The Anglo-Irish Treaty Negotiations, October – December 1921 • The 31st Eucharistic Congress 1932 • The Belfast Blitz during the Second World War

  3. Research topic • Student can select any area of history • Topic is maximum 1500 words • Evaluation of Sources also • Pre-submitted in April of Form 6 • Average mark in the Research Topic among history students in Ireland – usually @ 90% !

  4. What about assessment ? • 20% of assessment is by a pre-submitted Special Research Topic (for both higher & ordinary level) • 80% of assessment is by a 2 ½ hour exam in June (plus 20 extra minutes) • 4 questions (3 essays – and one document-based question)
