  2. Why the current news is NOT working… • Too Impersonal • Unreliable • Uninteresting • Unconnected • Too Slow • Not real-time • Not efficient • Not predictive Era of Information Overload!

  3. Too Impersonal… Missing the News that Matters News should narrow BIG data to MY data. Personal news. • If there’s traffic on my usual road to work, tell me + alert the best alternative route. • Hurricane approaching my parents’ city, let me pull up an email/phone call to see if they’re okay.

  4. Too Slow…Need Real-Time Data for Real-Time Decisions News should be fast, efficient & predictive… what is happening right now could affect you, and you should know about it ASAP! Time it takes for your personal news to get to you

  5. Too Slow Too Impersonal How can we use technology to improve personal response time on the things we care about most?

  6. Introducing Toast. Traffic Accident on Route 520 Click for alternative route to work Fantasy Sports Ray Rice out for the season Click to switch your fantasy lineup Work t-bdick finished code review Click to see the edits IDEA: Combine Outlook’s alert updates (toasts) and outside sources to give you a personalinflux of data instantly! Microsoft has the ability to broadly span the market by being in everyone’s PC, phone, and home system: ALWAYS connected and instant personal news.

  9. Visual Story • Take any two diverse demographic people: • This is a visual draft of how they would “select their toast” with an in-windows experience (similar to the personalization settings control panel) Signed in with their Microsoft account there would be a storage of all their interests and suggestions personal to them, as well as an option to “Toast this” to any program they opened

  10. Toast News Visual Story: PAGE 1 Enter any site, any app, any source at all here and it will provide the link for the data. Search Hot Topics Select Popular “toasts topics” will bubble to the top and be displayed pre-search. Trending Music Tech Business Weather Games Movies

  13. YOU’RE IN CONTROL Any update you want, anyway you want it This idea appeals to all demographics, bringing each person’s individual interests to Microsoft to give them the best user experience possible.

  14. Business Value to Microsoft Microsoft owns the OS with Windows, but when people get their updates they go to another company’s site/page/app and WE LOSE!
