The Pursuit of Marriage: Analyzing Elizabeth I's Suitors

Explore the motivations behind marriage in the time of Queen Elizabeth I. In groups, you’ll assume the roles of Elizabeth and her suitors: Christopher Hatton, Philip II, the Duke of Alençon, and Robert Dudley. Each suitor will present their case for marriage, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Following the presentations, you will write a letter either explaining to a disappointed suitor why you can't marry him or advocating for your own worthiness as a candidate. Engaging in this simulation will enhance your understanding of Elizabethan politics and personal relationships.
