1. WHAT IS DRAAS AND HOW CAN IT BENEFIT YOUR BUSINESS? Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) is a simple way for any organisation to upgrade their disaster recovery contingency planning. It’s a cloud-based system that streamlines the process of disaster recovery so that it is faster and easier to complete. In addition, it provides the option of alternative processing sites for disaster recovery needs and makes it easier for businesses to get back up and running in a shorter space of time than when working with an on-premise option. As a result, DRaaS is becoming an increasingly popular choice with businesses of all sizes; but what benefits does it actually provide? SCALABILITY Disaster recovery systems need to be aligned with, and appropriate for, the business that they are intended to support. So, it’s essential that they’re capable of scaling up or down as the business changes. This is something that can be difficult to achieve with on-premise disaster recovery but that’s not the case with DRaaS. Scaling with DRaaS is quicker and cheaper and doesn’t require any physical space to grow. A GREATER LEVEL OF SECURITY In-house on-premise solutions don’t generally offer the same level of security as cloud-based discovery systems. A more secure data infrastructure backup is available for cloud-based systems, which are less likely to be successfully targeted by hackers looking for the kind of critical, sensitive data that they might be able to obtain from an in-house system, which has many more vulnerabilities. FLEXIBILITY

2. If you opt for DRaaS then you’re not going to get tied into one particular network technology, server or backup and you can pick the management systems that work best for the needs of your business. This flexibility also extends to recovery options - choose whether you want to restore an entire system or just individual files - and pick a service that you can use as and when you need it, rather than paying continuously for support that is not required. COMPLIANCE AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS Monitoring and protection of vital data, as well as putting measures in place to ensure IT infrastructure meets specific standards are all crucial for businesses focused on compliance. DRaaS offers controls to make this easier, as well as the most current security measures and protocols, all of which demonstrate to auditors, regulators, and other authorities how data is handled. That includes who controls it, where it is located, how it is accessed, and how it is backed up. COST-EFFECTIVE The pay-as-you-go nature of DRaaS can considerably bring costs down, especially in comparison to a cumbersome in-house system. That relates not only to the up-front investment required in equipment but also the maintenance, repair and replacement costs that can be ongoing. No in-house team is required to run the system and any downtime is resolved far more quickly than could be achieved in-house. Implementing an effective, reliable and secure disaster recovery system within your IT infrastructure will provide you with peace of mind in knowing that your vital business data is secure in the event of a catastrophe.
