  1. human herpesvirus 2 Herpesviridae is a large family of DNA viruses that cause diseases in animals, including humans. The members of this family are also known as herpesviruses. The family name is derived from the Greek word herpein ("to creep"), referring to the latent, recurring infections typical of this group of viruses. Herpesviridae can cause latent or lytic infections. Thegenome is not segmented and contains a single molecule of linear double-stranded DNA. The complete genome is 152000 nucleotides long. The genome has a guanine cytosine content of 67-68 %. The genome has terminally redundant sequences. The terminally redundant sequences are reiterated internally in inverted form. The genome sequence is repeated at both ends. Each virion contains multiple isomeric forms of the genome (i.e. 4 isomeric forms and share more than 50% of its sequence with human (alpha) herpesvirus 2). http://www.creative-diagnostics.com/HHV-2-strain-HG52-antigen-228576-433.htm
