Biography and Autobiography: Data Sheet __________________________________________________ Long Middle School Webquests Source: Teaching Books.net • There were laws, called Jim Crow Laws that said that students in schools had to be separated based on the color of their skin. • The schools were supposed to be equal, but they weren’t. • There was a ruling from the Supreme Court called Brown vs Board of Education that said separate wasn’t equal. • Many people protested the ruling, but eventually schools became integrated. • Ms. Morrison wrote this book so that the memory of something that happened long before you were born would “swell your heart” and “open your mind.”
