Medieval Europe 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Pope Gregory excommunicated Emperor Henry after he tried to get the Pope removed. Henry went to Italy and asked for the Popes forgiveness. The Pope refused to talk. Henry stood barefoot in the snow waiting to speak to the Pope. After three days the Pope decided to give Henry the throne back.
