  8. Binary Fission The division of a prokaryotic cell into two identical daughter cells DNA (circular chromosome) is copied. Cell grows to twice its normal size Membrane pinches in toward the middle (like a cleavage furrow) A new cell wall forms around each membrane Eventually, the dividing prokaryote is split into two independent, identical cells
