History • The city of Monash was created in December 1994.The history of the area is dates back to about 150 years ago. • The first inhabitants of the land in the area that it is now the City of Monash were the Bunurong Tribe. • The first settler in the district was a Scottish builder called Thomas Napier. He established Bushy Park run in 1839 on the west side of Dandenong creek. • In 1854 the land in Mount Waverley was first subdivided.

THE MAYOR and THE DEPUTY MAYOR • The Mayor of the City of Monash is Councillor Michaela Driebergand the Deputy Mayor is Councillor Jieh – Yung Lo. • Councillor Michaela Drieberg has a background in health profession and hopes to use this knowledge to ensure “the community well being is put first”. • Councillor Jieh- Yung Lo was first elected into council in 2008 and became mayor in late 2011.

  5. What they DO • The City of Monash provides services for the local community for example: • Rubbish collections • Roads • Nature strips • Pre schools/Child care • Health services • Community activities • Wellfare
