  1. 3 Review The Warehouse Madrid Advanced Course

  2. #2 • My sister loves it when I read to her. • Holly soon realized it was impossible to get a work permit. • It would be wonderful to have more free time. • I’d love it if you came round to visit more often. • I’d appreciate it if you could turn down the heating. • I find it difficult to conecentrate when there’s music on.

  3. #3 • It’s a waste of time telling Janet to believe in herself. • It’s no secret that Pat’s after the top job. • It can’t be that difficult to get there by public transport. • It’s obvious that everyone is completely exhausted. • It’s no use asking him to help. • It isn’t easy looking after young children all day.

  4. #4 • Reckless • Arrogant • Extravagant • Finicky • Gullible • Obstinate • Impetuous • Timid • Tight-fisted

  5. #5 • Rachel’s gone down with the flu, but the doctor hasn’t put her on antibiotics. • Jake’s really unlucky. He seems to pick up every bug that’s going around. • I can’t eat strawberries. My face swells up and I come out (break out) in a rash. • You sound very blocked up (stuffed up). • Yes, I’m still trying to get over a bad cold.

  6. #6 • Only once before have I climbed such a high mountain. • Not only did I hate the film, I didn’t enjoy the meal after either. • Under no circumstances should anyone drive a car without insurance. • Not until she explained it again did I understand what had happened. • Only by chance did we manage to get tickets for the concert. • Rarely do you find a plumber as good as Henry.

  7. #6 • Only when Mark walked through the door did I realize I’d met him before. • Only recently did have we begun to play sport on a regular basis.

  8. #7 • The work I’m doing at the moment is challenging. • Al’s a bit of a handful. • Simon tends to be economical with the truth. • My cat’s getting on a bit. • I think senior citizens shouldn’t have to pay for heating. • It’s a bit on the chilly side today.

  9. Accurate Writing #1 (Unit 3) • Mo still smokes even though (although) she knows she shouldn’t. • They fell asleep, whereas I was awake for hours. • I can’t drive, although I’ve had lessons. • Amy still plays tennis, whereas I stopped playing ages ago. • I got lost, although I’d been there before.

  10. Accurate Writing #1 (b) (Unit 3) • Although (even though) I never bother to lock my car, I know I should. • I never bother to lock my car, but (although, even though) I know I should. • Whereas Jane always helps, her brother never does. • Although Jane says she’s willing to help, she rarely does. • Although I like cats, I prefer dogs. • I like cats. However, I prefer dogs. • Frank is very athletic, but his brother isn’t. (whereas) • Frank is very athletic. However, his brother isn’t.

  11. Accurate Writing #2 • This isn’t an everyday occurrence. • Every one of his jackets is handmade. • It’s a hundred-year-old house. • Does anyone know Pete’s mobile number? • Is there any way I can help? • She may be coming tonight.

  12. Accurate Writing #3 Everyone I know feels low at times, whereas I honestly don’t Although I do sometimes feel a bit low on energy, it’s not something that happens every day. Maybe it’s related to the weather. Anyway, when I do feel a bit low on energy I have a quick shower and that usually works. However, my brother is very different. If he’s a bit low, he actually goes for a ten-kilometre run. Although he’s actually 39, he sometimes behaves like a 20-year-old fitness fanatic!

  13. Future Verb Forms • By the time Jon gets here, the meeting will have finished. • I’ll try him on his mobile. • I’m goingto call Jeff about getting tickets for Thursday’s game. • Actually, I’ll be seeing him tomorrow. So I can ask him. • The traffic’s bad. We’re not going to get there on time. • I’m sure they won’t start without us.

  14. Future Verb Forms • I start my new job next week. • I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. • I hate driving in the dark so I’ll be leaving around 4.30 this afternoon. • But it gets dark at about 4 p.m.

  15. Accurate Writing (Unit 2) • As soon as (The moment) I met him I decided he was the man I was going to marry. • Ever since he came to the school he’s been nothing but trouble. • The cottage was originally (first) used as a post office, but it was converted a hundred years ago. • I bought a new computer last month. From then on (ever since) I’ve had nothing but trouble with it.

  16. Accurate Writing (Unit 2) • I caught a glimpse of Steve while (as) I was hurrying down the street. • I accepted their invitation to supper. Afterwards, I regretted it. • He began asking the boss about his plans. Then he realized the mistake he’d made and changed the subject quickly. • I sat anxiously waiting for the call. Meanwhile, I tried to get on with some work, but kept looking at the clock.

  17. #2 Accurate Writing (Unit 2) • There’s a lot of mud on the car’s wheels. • Are you absolutely sure it’s not hers? • Britain’s most popular pets are cats. • I really can’t remember its name. • Where's the students’ coffee bar? • I think it’s written by Charles Dickens. • I’d listen carefully to the women’s opinions if I were you.

  18. #3 Accurate Writing (Unit 2) • I vividly remember the first time I saw Venice because it’s so beautiful and there’s nowhere else like it in the entire world. As soon as (the moment) you come out of the station you see all the boats going up and down the Grand Canal, which contributes to its fairytale atmosphere. I think it’s one of Europe’s most romantic cities. I first went there with my parents when I was ten, and I’ve been going there ver since, for the last 20 years.

  19. #3 Accurate Writing (Unit 2) • As/While I’m going along the river bus, I still can’t stop looking at the fantastic buildings which line the canals Its unique architecture makes Venice a real open-air museum. I then love wandering around the narrow streets and going window-shopping.
