  2. KEY WORDS… This is a list of key words for this unit. It is at the front of your booklet for reference and revision. This has been done to save you a LOT of writing. You must refer to this during lessons and learn ALL of these words for your exam. You will be tested on these throughout the year.

  3. You must complete ALL of TASK THREE in the homework booklet – your teacher will give you a completion date. Complete pages 96 and 97 of your SPAG BOOKLET – this must come with you to EVERY LESSON THOUGH (don’t leave it at home).

  4. Objective... • To use a sorting task, media clips and real life scenarios to understand the need for laws and justice.

  5. Outcomes... Grade C You will be able to define the words justice and responsibility, describe how laws are made and list reasons why society needs rules Grade B You will be able toexplain why justice is important in society. Grade A-A* You will be able to express an opinion on the need for justice. Your GOALS for the end of this lesson are…

  7. Now SELF MARK your own work – give a mark out of 2 and make corrections if necessary. LAW Rules that govern human relationships and society DEFINE the words... JUSTICE and RESPONSIBILITY – complete page 89 QUESTION 1 and 2 JUSTICE Enforcing laws in a way that is fair and equal to everyone – making sure bad acts are punished. RESPONSIBILITY Being responsible for your actions – accepting when you have done wrong and facing the consequences.

  9. How are laws made? Laws are made in PARTLIMENT through a very complex procedure... Watch the clip carefully... Number the statements on your sheet to put them into the CORRECT ORDER.

  10. How are laws made? 1. The proposed law is written out in a document called a BILL. 2. The BILL is introduced and discussed in the HOUSE OF COMMONS – This is called the FIRST READING. 3. The BILL is again debated in PARLIMENT – This is called the SECOND READING. 4. It is passed to a committee and gone through in detail – It is then debated again – This is the THIRD READING. 5.A vote is taken and if the vote is in favour of the BILL, it is passed to the HOUSE OF LORDS for discussion. 6. The HOUSE OF LORDS debate and vote on the BILL – If it is PASSED it is sent to the QUEEN who gives it the ROYAL ASSENT. 7. The BILL becomes an act of PARLIMENT and is now LAW and enforced by the POLICE.

  12. Why does society need rules? Make a detailed LIST in your books… Society needs rules because: Everyone knows right from wrong. Everyone behaves in a predictable manor. People know how they will be punished if they commit a crime. They prevent people being selfish.   14. Why do we have LAWS? Think about... What would a world without LAWS be like? Use this clip to help you LIST FOUR REASONS why JUSTICE is important in society.

  15. Why do we have LAWS? Justice gives us... • Safety • Fairness • Equality • Responsibility Laws are the RULES that govern human relationships and society as a whole. Under the law we take RESPONSIBILITY for the way we choose to behave. Laws give us JUSTICE – the ability to enforce fair and equal treatment to EVERYONE, making sure that good acts are rewarded and bad acts PUNISHED.

Justice gives us... • Safety – stops a corrupt and chaotic society. • Fairness – ensures laws are enforced fairly to keep order. • Equality – people are rewarded and punished in proportion to their actions, laws are enforced fairly. • Responsibility – makes people responsible for their own actions, people are punished for wrong actions.
