  1. CELL PARTS Parts used for Cell Structure and Cell Division (Page 84)

  2. CYTOSKELETON

  3. STRUCTURE Network of thin tubes and filaments (Made of Protein) that crisscrosses the cytosol Made up of Microfilaments, Microtubules and Intermediate Filaments FUNCTION Gives shape to the cell(like the inside of a tent) Plays important roles in intracellular transport Act as internal tracks(for example:the movement of vesicles and organelles) Cellular division. CYTOSKELETONLocated in cytosol of the cytoplasm

  4. STRUCTURE Hollow tubes made of coiled tubulin (a type of protein) Two subunits: Alpha and Beta Tubulin Radiate outward from the centrosome near the nucleus FUNCTION Chromosome Movement(Cell Division) Hold organelles in place and assists in organelle movement Cell Motility – Make up Cilia and Flagella Maintains cell’s shape MICROTUBULES

  5. Microtubules

  6. Structure Two strands of intertwined actin protein Looks like a rope Function Maintains cell’s shape and movement of cytoplasm Cell Motility (ex: White blood Cells) Cell Division **Muscle cell Contraction Microfilaments

  7. MICROFILAMENTS

  8. Structure Protein fibers coiled into cables Function Rods that anchor nucleus and other organelles in their place Maintains cell shape and Nucleus Shape Intermediate Filaments

  9. Intermediate Filaments

  10. CENTROSOMES & CENTRIOLES

  11. Centrosome Structure Contain two centrioles Centrosome Function Microtubule Organizing Center Contains two centrioles in the animal cell Centrioles Structure Two short cylinders of microtubules Centrioles Function Act as anchors that microtubules attach to during cell division to move chromosomes. Centrioles and Centrosomes

  12. CILIA AND FLAGELLA

  13. Structure: Flagella- Made of microtubules. One or two long strand that extends from the cell Membrane Cilia- Many short hairlike structures that extend from the cell membrane Function Movement of the cell Aids in movement of fluids across the cell membrane CILIA AND FLAGELLA
