  2. Timand Bates is an educator dedicated to developing thoughtful, inclusive pedagogy across diverse learning environments.

  3. With an M.A. in the Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University, he has taught adolescents, incarcerated learners, refugee teachers, and graduate students worldwide.

  4. Timand Bates’s teaching portfolio includes leadership roles at the Bard Prison Initiative, the American University of Central Asia, and The Young Women’s Leadership School of Astoria, where he chaired the English department and co-developed a film curriculum showcased at the Tribeca Youth Film Festival.

  5. Timand Bates’s expertise lies in creating learner-centered experiences rooted in social justice and academic rigor. He has trained teachers through CSUEB and Bard’s MAT program and led faculty development workshops funded by the UNHCR in Bangladesh.

  6. Whether guiding 8th graders through literature circles or advising graduate educators in Kyrgyzstan, Timand Bates believes deeply in literacy as a tool for transformation. His work merges curriculum innovation, inclusive practices, and a global view of learning. He has presented at NCTE, the NYC Writing Project, and internationally through the Open Society University Network.
