  3. REGISTRATION TIMELINE • Register Online January 14 to January 24 • Portal Closes Midnight on January 24 • See Online Registration Handout for Log In & Password assistance • Individual Advisement will be February

  4. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS A STUDENT MUST COMPLETE A MINIMUM OF 24 UNITS OF CREDIT TO GRADUATE.

  5. THIS YEAR!!!!! You will be registering online! Course requests will be accessed through the STUDENT or PARENT PORTAL If you have previously logged on, you will use your current user name and password If you have logged on and have forgotten your password you must call (636) 851-HELP Any students who have not gone into their portal account can get in by using their student ID number as their username. Their password will be the first initial of their first and last name and birthdate in 6 digits (jj012795). The portal will be open until Jan. 24th – don’t delay! If you don’t go online and register you will not be assured of getting the courses you want!!!

O.S.S.R. – Online Student Schedule Requests Yr 2014 1- Select Course Registration 2014 2- Begin at: Course Search 3- Search By: Enter a partial Course Name (or leave it blank) then GO 4- Click on the specific course you wish to view (Course Description then becomes visible) 5- Select REQUEST THIS COURSE 6- Repeat these steps for each Course Request / Begin again at Course Search (item 2 above) 7- UNITS Must Equal ( 14 / 14 ) for a Complete Schedule ( 7 courses Sm1 & 7 courses Sm2 )

  7. When you have completed 14 units along with 4 alternates you are finished registering.

Unit of Credit • Each semester class you pass = .5 credit • Each year long class you pass (2 semesters) = 1.0 credit • Required Course • Specific course or credit required to graduate • You must pass all of these classes in addition to earning 24 credits. If you fail a required class, you must retake it until you pass . • Elective Course • Courses you choose to take for credit but not specifically required for graduation. • If you fail an elective it is not necessary to retake it for credit. Grading Scale A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 F 59 and below Semester Grade = 1st quarter percentage x 40% + 2nd quarter percentage x 40% + semester final exam percentage x 20%

REQUIRED UNITS OF CREDIT FOR GRADUATION • Communication Arts 4.0 units *9TH Grade Communication Arts; 10th Grade Communication Arts; 11th Grade Communication Arts • Social Studies 3.0 units *American History; World History; American Government • Mathematics 3.0 units *Any three math credits • Science 3.0 units *Physical Science; Biology • Fine Arts 1.0 units *Art Classes; music classes; theatre classes *Student decides when to take this credit • Practical Arts 1.0 units *FACS classes; Industrial Technology classes; Business classes; Yearbook, Newspaper and Photojournalism *Student decides when to take this credit • Physical Education 1.0 units *Student decides when to take .5 credit P.E. elective • Health 0.5 units • Personal Finance 0.5 units *Student decides when to take Personal Finance (Junior or Senior year) Electives 7.0 units *Any credit earned beyond the minimum required in the core areas listed above or credits earned in the non core areas such as world languages

OPTIONS FOR SENIOR YEAR • Lewis and Clark Career Center *Attend FHN 3 hours, Attend Lewis & Clark 3 hours *Juniors eligible to attend 2 year technical programs • Work Study Programs-Seniors • Must attend FHN at least 4 hours *Culinary Arts/Cooperative Work *Business/Cooperative Work Experience *Marketing/Cooperative Work Experience • Dual Enrollment

  14. DUAL ENROLLMENT *Student enrolls in college credit classes at St. Charles Community College, UMSL or Lindenwood. Only college credits are earned for these courses, no high school credit. • Enrollees must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA • Students must be at FHN at least 4 periods *4 periods at FHN = 6 college hrs (normally 2 courses) *5 or more periods at FHN = 3 college hrs (normally 1 course)

  17. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS for M.S.H.S.A.A. ACTIVITIES • Must be enrolled in courses offering 3.0 units of credit (6 classes) • Must have earned 3.0 units of credit the preceding semester • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 1.5 • All freshmen are eligible their first semester of high school.

  20. ADDING AND DROPPING CLASSES Regular classes can only be changed within the first 10 days of each semester. Classes dropped after the 10 day limit, will result in a grade of “F” for the semester. *CHOOSE COURSES AND ALTERNATES CAREFULLY*

Summer School Options Summer School is remedial with exception of the following: • Keyboarding • Intro to Computer Applications • Personal Finance Online(Students must have completed 10thgrade) • Weight Training 1,2,3 and 4 • Health Online • Team Sports (9thgrade PE completed to take Team Sports or Weights) • ACT Prep – 3 days no credit

  23. FRANCIS HOWELL COLLEGE PREPARATORY STUDIES CERTIFICATE • Requires: • 4 units of English • 4 units of Math (Algebra and above) • 2 units of Foreign Language and/or additional core classes • 3.0 GPA* • ACT score at the National Average • * GPA calculated based on 7 semesters of high school

  24. PRESIDENT’S AWARD for EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE Student must meet: ALL criteria for the College Preparatory Studies Certificate • 3.5 GPA* • 85 percentile or above on ACT or SAT • * GPA calculated based on 7 semesters of high school

STANDARD of ACADEMIC ACCOMPLISHMENT • Student must meet: • ALL Criteria for Francis Howell College Preparatory Studies Exceptions • 2.5 GPA* or higher or score in the Average of the National Percentile or higher on the ACT • Participate in one or more co-curricular activity during each year of high school • Excellent citizenship record (No suspensions) • Excellent attendance record *GPA calculated based on 7 semesters of high school

  26. CUM LAUDE RECOGNITION • Summa Cum Laude 4.2 or higher GPA • Magna Cum Laude 4.0 -- 4.19 GPA • Cum Laude 3.8 -- 3.99 GPA • Includes GPA for 8 semesters of high school

  27. REQUIREMENTS for CUM LAUDE Recognition • Credits Required: • 27 credits required • Successfully complete four credits in each of the Core areas (Math, Communication Arts, Science and Social Studies) • Earn “Proficient” and/or “Advanced” rating on three out of four End of Course (EOC’s) exams • Score minimum of 27 ACT • Students will wear a medallion and Cum Laude honors will be announced at graduation • Summa Cum Laude – Gold medallion • Magna Cum Laude – Silver medallion • Cum Laude – Bronze medallion A seal will be placed on diploma indicating the appropriate honor.
