  2. “The Beatitudes are in some sense the Christian’s identity card. They identify us as followers of Jesus. We are called to be blessed, to be followers of Jesus, to confront the troubles and anxieties of our age with the spirit and love of Jesus.”

  3. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

  4. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3-10

  5. On All Saints Day 2016, Pope Francis proposed six new Beatitudes to enable us to “recognise and respond to new situations with fresh spiritual energy”.

  6. Blessed are those who pray and work for full communion between Christians.

  7. Blessed are those who renounce their own comfort in order to help others.

  8. Blessed are those who protect and care for our common home.

  9. Blessed are those who look into the eyes of the abandoned and marginalised and show them their closeness.

  10. Blessed are those who see God in every person and strive to make others also discover him.

  11. Blessed are those who remain faithful while enduring evils inflicted on them by others and forgive them from their heart.

  12. Blessed are those who renounce their own comfort in order to help others. Blessed are those who pray and work for full communion between Christians. Blessed are those who protect and care for our common home.
