  10. Empathy is just that. You may not be able to always understand how someone is feeling, but you can try. • Being a listener and not criticizing someone • Not faking that you understand how they feel or suggesting you know best is another way to show empathy. • Sometime just simply being there and listening is the best way to show empathy. • You want to Guide your friends not make decisions for them. Have you ever heard the expression: “try putting yourself in someone else’s shoes?”

  12. Classroom Assignment #2 Read the Scenario’s on the worksheet given by the teacher. Students will analyze the situations and write how the person in the situation could respond using empathy. Group Scenarios

Write a reflective journal entry about a time that something occurred to you and you shared that with someone. • It could have been something unfortunate or something very exciting. • Discuss how that person listened to you and responded and decide if they responded with empathy or not. • If they did describe the empathetic qualities. If they did not, describe how that made you feel and how you wish they had responded. Quick Write #2
