Loggerhead

Loggerhead turtles are found in bays and shallow waters along the continental shelves of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. These sea turtles measure 2.5 to 3.5 feet in length and can weigh up to 350 pounds, exhibiting a distinctive light or dark brown shell with two claws on each flipper and a triangular head. They primarily feed on shellfish, horseshoe crabs, clams, and mussels. However, their populations are threatened by human-induced habitat disturbances, excessive lighting, long-line fishing, and pollution. Female loggerheads lay between 100-126 eggs per nest that hatch after 60 days.

  2. Habitat Loggerheads live in bays, and shallow water along the continental shelves of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.

  3. Identification A Loggerhead turtle is 2.5 to 3.5 feet long and weighs 350 pounds. It is light brown or dark brown with two claws on each flipper. It has a triangular head.
