Types of vision problems • Cataracts, glaucoma, trachoma • “uncorrected refractive error” = 1/3 to ½ of vision impairment cases in underdeveloped nations

“FUDEM” vision care model • 4 main centres in urban locations • Services based on ability to pay (sliding scale) • Main centres fund rural outreach • Accessing rural areas is challenging
PROJECTS FOR 2013 1- Two new vehicles for the Ventanitas de Luz program for children in public schools. 2- Sponsoring the cost of operation of 1 mobile team. 3- Purchasing diagnostics equipment for our rural outreach programs and the Santa Ana optometry clinic. 4- On-site training of FUDEM`s optometry staff
1- MOBILE UNITS • Price of each vehicle with vinyl wrap = $18,500 Total for 2 = $37,000 • All maintenance, insurance and operative expenses run on Fudem`s expense
2- MOBILE TEAM BREAKDOWN • 3 Steps for a Rural Campaign: • Coordination with local community leaders, strategic location and dates • Actual Visual Campaign • Delivery of prescription glasses manufactured in our own laboratory Each Mobile Team consists of: Cost of performing a Rural Campaign (all 3 Steps): Cost of performing 110 Rural Campaigns (4 months, all 3 Steps): 110 x $367.56 = $40,000
4- ON SITE TRAINING 1- On-site training of FUDEM`s optometry staff here in El Salvador. a) more people can be trained at the same time b) Canadian optometrists can live the «Fudem Experience» of humanitarian services. c) Canadian optometrists can give better ideas on how to improve our consultation. 2- On-site training of FUDEM`S optometry staff in Canada
RESULTS What FUDEM guarantees: 1- Full Rotary International acknowledgement in every project. 2- Total transparency and honest use of the funds. 3- Extensive report of relevant information regarding statistics, coverage, refractions, pathologies , usage of the equipment, etc. 4- Funds destined to solve any visual health need of our most vulnerable population. 5- Funds will be used in on-going succesfull programs recognized nationally and internationally.
Funding strategy • $16,000 from RCC, with $7,500 DDF • Match from TRF = $7,500 + $8,000 • Total = $39,000 • FUDEM resp. for ongoing operations expenses
