Why do more with Firefox? • Why not? • Improve the browsing experience • Personalize your browser • Make your browser work for you • Make some of your tasks easier • It’s easier than you think
Today’s Add-on Agenda • Vertigo • Tab X • Morning Coffee • Add to Search Bar • Screengrab • Del.icio.us
Del.icio.us Morning Coffee Add to Search Bar Vertigo Tab X Screengrab & Del.icio.us
Vertigo and Tab X • Moves tabs from the top to the side • You can have more tabs visible • One drawback – you lose the X to close the tab • Unless… you also install Tab X • Ensures that every tab has an X to close it • I recommend adding these together
Vertigo with Tab X installed – makes closing the tabs much easier!
Morning Coffee • Let’s you automate the sites you regularly visit • Example – when you open Firefox – where do you regularly go? • For me, it’s Meebo, Gmail, LibraryThing, Bloglines, and eVanced (our scheduling software) • With Morning Coffee, these open with one click!
Click on Options to add your favorite web sites to Morning Coffee
Add to Search Bar • Add multiple search engines • Saves you time • Access your favorite search engines from one place • Can do more than Google
Visit a site, right click on the Search bar Select the Add to Search Bar option
Screengrab • Use to capture web pages • Use to capture images or portions of web pages • Save or copy the images into a document • Warning – don’t change the file name that Screengrab assigns when you save the image • Use as you would a screen shot – in presentations, documents, flyers, etc.
Click on the icon and then choose which type of screengrab you want to do Screengrab Icon

Del.icio.us • Organize your bookmarks • Tag them • More information – Week 8 of Project Play • Play Date: More with Del.icio.us • Next Friday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m. • Register at the SCLS Calendar
Del.icio.us gives you a tour of its features after downloading is complete – not all add-ons do
To your del.icio.us account Tag a web site To Open Bookmarks Bookmarks opened on the sidebar – close when not in use
How do you do it? • Click on Tools (in your toolbar) • Then on Add-ons • This also lists your current add-ons • Click on Get Extensions • This takes you out to the Add-ons portion of the Firefox website • https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ • Search for add-ons
This opens a window with your current Add-ons Notice the Options, Disable and Uninstall buttons Click here to search for new Add-ons https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
Look for reviews Check out the Update Date
Check out the description to see if the add-on will do what you want Also, check out who provides support – if needed
While these reviews aren’t great – check the date. Firefox 3 was released and the add-on probably wasn’t upgraded – yet And, since we’re still using Firefox 2 – we’re good to go!
Ready? • If you’re satisfied with the information you’ve found on your selected download • Click on Add to Firefox • Follow instructions on the screen • You’ll need to restart Firefox for the add-on to take effect • Easy to uninstall – if you’re not happy with the add-on
How do I find out about Add-ons? • Lifehacker • http://lifehacker.com/396510/firefox-3-downloaded-eight-million-times • Other bloggers • Tasha Saecker’s blog • http://sites.menashalibrary.org/ • Jessamyn West • http://www.librarian.net/ • http://www.librarian.net/stax/2297/winding-river-library-system-talk-and-notes/
