  1. The Kingdom of God Speaking of God All thy works shall give thanks to thee, O LORD, and all thy saints shall bless thee! They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and tell of thy power, to make known to the sons of men thy mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of thy kingdom.

  2. The Kingdom of God Speaking of God God, who is the creator of all things, is also their Lord and Master. All creation can, therefore, be said to constitute the Kingdom of God (Ps. 103:19; 1 Chron. 29:11).

  3. The Kingdom of God Speaking of God However, in addition to this universal Kingdom of God, He chose one people to be His Kingdom in a particular way. By the election of Abraham, by the promises made to him and to Isaac and to Jacob, by His special providence for their descendants in Egypt and in the Exodus, the Jews became in a special sense the Kingdom of God. "You shall be my peculiar possession above all people; for all the earth is mine. And you shall be to me a priestly kingdom and a holy nation" (Ex. 19:5-6).

  4. The Kingdom of God Speaking of God God made laws to regulate both their religious and civil life, and made them a people apart, separated from all other nations and under His immediate direction. He guided them through prophets: especially Moses, through whom the Law came to them, and Joshua, his successor, to whom God promised that He would send a series of prophets to make His will known (Deut. 18:18).

  5. The Kingdom of God When God's Chosen People demanded that Samuel give them a king, God made it clear that they were thereby rejecting Him, who was their king (1 Sam. 8:7); And when He did give them a king, The royal throne was called the throne of the kingdom of Yahweh over Israel (1 Chron. 28:5)

  6. The Kingdom of God Through the mouth of Nathan, the prophet, God explained His relationship to King David: "I will be to him a father; and he shall be to me a son. And if he commit any iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the children of men" (2 Sam. 7:14). The threat contained in those lines was carried out by God in various punishments inflicted on the kings and on the people, but especially in the exile of the Chosen People, After the return from exile God restored the theocratic government of Israel in both the civil and religious sphere.

  7. The Kingdom of God The prophets of the Old Testament, in speaking of the Kingdom of God, announced in clear terms a greater and more excellent kingdom to come, which would be universal and include the Gentiles (e.g., Is. 49:6) and would last forever (e.g., Dan. 2:44). The kingdom thus referred to was not a new political empire but the Kingdom of God founded by Christ, although even the Apostles were slow to understand this (Acts 1:6).

  8. The Kingdom of God In the New Testament the term "Kingdom of God," although used frequently (Matthew uses the phrase "Kingdom of Heaven"), is a very complex idea. Usually the word has one of three meanings: the internal, invisible Kingdom; the social and visible Kingdom; or the final, triumphant Kingdom of God.

  9. The Kingdom of God The internal Kingdom of God is the reign of God in the hearts of men by His grace. It comes unawares and is within the souls of men (Luke 17:21), and consists not "in food and drink, but in justice and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit" (Rom. 14:17).

  10. The Kingdom of God The visible Kingdom of God is the Catholic Church founded by Christ. It is for all men, contains even sinners, who will someday be cast out, grows from small beginnings (Matt. 13), and is a gift of God's love (Luke 12:32).

  11. The Kingdom of God The final Kingdom of God is the triumphant reign of God and His Christ. When Our Lord shall return in glory at the end of the world, the Kingdom shall reach consummation (Rev. 19:11-16). Christ instructed His followers to pray for God's reign to be perfect and complete (Matt. 6:10).

  12. The Kingdom of God Then, at the time of the resurrection of the dead, when the Kingdom is perfect, Christ will deliver it over to God the Father, and God will be all in all (1 Cor. 15:24, 28).

  13. The Kingdom of God The reign or rule of God: the kingdom of God is . . . righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Rom 14:17). The Kingdom of God draws near in the coming of the Incarnate Word; • it is announced in the Gospel; • it is the messianic Kingdom, present in the person of Jesus, the Messiah; • it remains in our midst in the Eucharist.

  14. The Kingdom of God Christ gave to his Apostles the work of proclaiming the Kingdom, and through the Holy Spirit forms his people into a priestly kingdom, the Church, in which the Kingdom of God is mysteriously present, for she is the seed and beginning of the Kingdom on earth. In the Lords Prayer (Thy Kingdom come) We pray for its final glorious appearance, when Christ will hand over the Kingdom to his Father

  15. The Kingdom of God The mission of the Church is “to proclaim and establish among all peoples the kingdom of Christ and of God She is on earth, the seed and the beginning of that kingdom”.

  16. The Kingdom of God On the one hand, the Church is “a sacrament — that is, sign and instrument of intimate union with God and of unity of the entire human race”. She is therefore the sign and instrument of the kingdom; She is called to announce and to establish the kingdom.

  17. The Kingdom of God On the other hand, the Church is the “people gathered by the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”; she is therefore “the kingdom of Christ already present in mystery” and constitutes its seed and beginning.

  18. The Kingdom of God The kingdom of God, in fact, has an eschatological dimension: it is a reality present in time, but its full realization will arrive only with the completion or fulfillment of history.

  19. The Kingdom of God "The Church . . . will receive its perfection only in the glory of heaven," at the time of Christ's glorious return. Until that day, "the Church progresses on her pilgrimage amidst this world's persecutions and God's consolations." Here below she knows that she is in exile far from the Lord, and longs for the full coming of the Kingdom, when she will "be united in glory with her king. . . . " (CCC, No. 769)

  20. The Kingdom of God The kingdom aims at transforming human relationships It grows gradually as people slowly learn to love, forgive and serve one another. Jesus sums up the whole Law, focusing it on the commandment of love (cf. Mt 22:34-40; Lk 10:25-28). Before leaving his disciples, he gives them a "new commandment": "Love one another; even as I have loved you" (Jn 13:34; cf. 15:12).

  21. The Kingdom of God Jesus' love for the world finds its highest expression in the gift of his life for humankind (cf. Jn 15:13), which manifests the love which the Father has for the world (cf. Jn 3:16).

  22. The Kingdom of God The kingdom's nature, therefore, is one of communion among all human beings--with one another and with God. The kingdom is the concern of everyone: individuals, society, and the world. Working for the kingdom means acknowledging and promoting God's activity, which is present in human history and transforms it. Building the kingdom means working for liberation from evil in all its forms. In a word, the kingdom of God is the manifestation and the realization of God's plan of salvation in all its fullness.

  23. The Kingdom of God To turn toward the Kingdom is to turn away from selfishness and sin, from being absorbed in ourselves; to be able to pray Thy Kingdom come with honesty and integrity, we must also be able to say, My kingdom go.

  24. The Kingdom of God The power to live in this kingdom, and to extend it to others comes from UNION WITH GOD. If I am not constantly renewing my contact with God, receiving energy from God, taking guidance from God, I can't do anything. BUT if I am in touch with God through PRAYER, then I can be about the work of the Kingdom, and miracles can result

  25. The Kingdom of God Remember the Kingdom of God is at hand! —God is acting in our midst!— and the impossible become possible as long as we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. This calls for us as disciples to have a level of fundamental trust in God; with this trust, the Church will thrive and spread the Kingdom.
