WP 04: Data compilation and analysis coordinatedby SUMER Start : 06th month End : 27th month • Objectives • The main objective is to compile and process the data required for the individual case study applications of the methods defined in WP 02 and the numerical tools described and configured in WP 03, subject to the constraints analyzed in WP 01. • A high degree of standardization in terms of the data and indicators to be used (in part defined by the model data requirements, see WP 03) as well as the meta data to be used in their description will be attempted to facilitate: • the use of the common set of methods across case studies; • the comparative analysis across case studies.

Our understanding:Institutional Setting and Key Actors should define the relationship between institutions, key actors and define the exact roles (functions) of the key actors on water issues: QUESTION 2: Have we classified the roles (functions) of actors and the relationships between actors?

  5. Task 1: Compilation, analysis, and processing ofsocio-economic data: EXAMPLE ANALYSIS Roles and responsibilities of Actors For each activity, the organization or person will have a role to play. Descriptors ofroles are: Executive (full responsibility for execution of the activity) Supervisory (needs to be informed of decisions made) Consulted (needs to be consulted before decisions are made) Regulatory (has power to over-rule executive decisions) Advisory (can advise on course of action) Interested Party/Affected (influenced by the action-may be above or below the decision maker) Committee (involved in executive, regulatory, advisory or other role as part of a committee). Can apply to an organization or an individual. Organizational/individual action For each activity, the organization or individual will carry out some action.   7. Task 1: Compilation, analysis, and processing ofsocio-economic data: • 1.2 Regulatory framework:WP02 should exactly define that what kind of data will be collected and how they will be analyzed. Economic Indicators Development Indicators • Task 1: Compilation, analysis, and processing ofsocio-economic data: • 1.3 Basic economic and development indicators:WP02 should exactly define that what kind of data will be collected and how they will be analyzed. Our understanding:Economic and development indicators should define the economic situation related to both the water issues and the general issues at national/regional level. These indicators will be used to compare the case studies. Data Analyses QUESTION 4: Have we defined and classified common (globally accepted) indicators?

Task 1: Compilation, analysis, and processing ofsocio-economic data: • 1.4 Policy framework and development plans/strategiesWP02 should exactly define what kind of data will be collected and how they will be analyzed. Our understanding: Policy Framework and development plans/strategies should define how a decision is made. How do we go from scenarios to decisions?. How are the objectives of management determined? What are the criteria? Actor-1 Objective-1 Scenario/Demand Decision/Supply Actor-2 Objective-2 Actor-N Objective-N QUESTION 5: Did we define “integrated management approach, problem based approach, ..,coastal zone management etc.”? Are the objectives and criteria clear and applicable?

Forest Loam Quality Dam Rainfall Wind • Task 2: Compilation, analysis, and processing of physiographic and hydrological background data: • WP03 should exactly define that what kind of data will be collected and how they will be analyzed. Our understanding:All elements should be defined in a GIS-based framework and all items clearly defined and classified according to Waterware and Telemac requirements. How many classes will be used? What are the classes? What are the class properties? QUESTION 6: More clear data class and properties?

GIS based Physiographic and Hydrological DataBase Data from Task2 Tabular based Socio-Economic DataBase Data from Task1 Socio-Economic Analyses WaterWare & Telemac WP03 • Task 3: Building of a consistent database across case studies Our understanding:According to the data described in Tasks 1 and 2, there will be 2 main databases. One is for socio-economic data and this will be linked to socio economic analyses. The second is for the physiographic and hydrologic data and will be linked to the analytical tools (Waterware and Telemac). Meta Data will be based on data properties obtained through Task 1 and Task 2.

Task 4: Comparative analysis of the data Our understanding:All data will be compared across case studies by using common classes and indicators QUESTION 7: What indicators should we define for Comparative Analysis in WP10? The data to be compiled will eventually be used for definition of indicators. So, should we select them NOW? Proposals for Indicator Development: World Bank System? DPSIR (EEA)? UNEP? UNECE ? • Task 5: Preparation of the Data Report Our understanding:All case study partners will prepare their own Data Compilation and Analysis Report. Having all reports forwarded to us, the “Data Compilation and Analysis Report” summary report will be prepared.
