  2. Relative Development Index • An index that measures development in non-monetary terms • Index is similar to the UN indices adapted to the Mauritian context • UN Human Development Index • Index ranges from 0 (low development) to 1 (high development)

Relative Development Index • Dimensions – 12 indicators • Housing and Living Conditions • Availability of piped water, electricity, flush toilet ; ownership; durability of houses. • Education – literacy and enrolment • Literacy rate; primary and secondary enrolment ; educational attainment with SC and above • Employment • Employment rate; person engaged in occupation such as technicians, managers and professionals
