  1. Mrs. Demos Classroom Policies and Procedures 2013-2014

  2. True or False • Mrs. Demos has been teaching her whole adult life. • Mrs. Demos watched seven seasons of Dr. Who this summer. • Once Mrs. Demos phoned home from the Eiffel Tower in Paris. • Mrs. Demos has a parrot named Jack. • Mrs. Demos read 7 books this summer. One was non-fiction.

  3. True or False • Ms. McCordic is the oldest of three sisters. • Ms. McCordic is half-Korean and proud of it. • Ms. McCordic is a huge US Women’s soccer fan. • Ms. McCordic is superstitious. • Ms. McCordic belongs to a book club and reads at least one book a month.

  4. Drill 18/26 Homework: OMMS Book page due next class. Supplies Due 8/30 • Objective: Students will become familiar with classroom expectations and procedures. • Drill: Read and annotate the parent letter.

  5. Exit Ticket • There are three questions each of you need to answer by Thursday. • Write your answer to each question on a post-it note and put your answer under the question on the paper. • You do not need to put your name on the answer.

  6. Drill 28/27 Homework: Supplies Due 8/30 OMMS Book page if not complete. • Objective: Students will become familiar with classroom expectations and procedures. • Drill: Take out the OMMS Book page. Please check over it to make sure the information is complete and the paper signed. • If time do your exit ticket questions.

  7. Taking Notes • Note taking is a very important skill. • Most of the time you do not need to write down everything. Just key words. • We are going to practice during the procedures presentation. • Take out a piece of paper. • Put a heading on the paper. • Number 1-10.

  8. NO EXCUSES ! • That is our guiding phrase for the year. • There are NO EXCUSES for: • Late work • Talking • Being Late • Touching another student or their possessions • Not working • Not participating • Being foolish • Being unprepared

  9. What will happen? • Yellow “No Excuses” card • Red card • Could lead to detention and/or parent contact.

  10. Class Jobs • Each class has people with jobs to do. • Three people per class. • The names will change each week. • The jobs will very depending on what is needed. • Homework recorder, distribution/collection, jobs as needed.

  11. Index Cards • Please write your name on the top line of the index card. • Please write one interesting fact about yourself on the card. It should be something that no one knows, but you would not mind telling people.

  12. Flash Cash In Class • What are some ways to earn flash cash? • What can you use flash cash for? • Something new with flash cash. • In the classroom, you can use flash cash for some great prizes and activities. • Stars worth 1 point extra credit • Homework passes for excused homework or extra credit. • Phone a Teacher • Teacher assistant • Teach the teacher 6. Whole class award of one class of computer time

  14. When Can I Talk? • Three categories: • A no talking at all for any reason. • Independent work: Drills, quiz/test • B students may talk quietly to each other about the work at hand. • C Students may talk to each other about school appropriate topics.

  15. The Basics • Bathroom breaks the first five and last five minutes of class. • Planner must be filled out to leave the room for any reason. • Sign out/in every time you leave the room for any reason. • Get water before you come into the room • No one is out of their seat unless given permission

  16. Asking to leave • At any time if you feel you must leave the room…. • First: • Completely fill out your agenda • Give the ASL bathroom sign • Wait for me • Sign out • Sign in when you get back

  17. Every day • Bring the following to class • Planner • Pens/Pencils • Flash drive • Homework • Any special supplies for class • Binders will be kept in the classroom and distributed at the beginning of class. • GT Students will bring their binders to class each day.

  18. Start Class Right • Complete Planner • Leave Planner open to be checked • Write date on drill paper • Read the objective—you might be asked what we are doing today and will need to understand the objective. • Complete the drill • You have seven minutes to complete this

  19. Pet Peeves • Gum Chewing---never never never • Not pushing your chair in • The word “sucks” • It is all about word choice. Find another word. • Being rude • Not taking responsibility • Please to not touch anyone else’s possessions

  20. June Box • You are in 8th grade no toys of any kind in class. • Items that go in the June Box: toys, anything that distracts you or others, books, Sharpies, make-up • I open the June Box the last day of school.

  21. Remember Exit Ticket • Please answer all three questions poster on the board. • I am really excited about some of the answers so far.

  22. Drill 38/28 Homework: Supplies due Friday • Objective: The students will review parts of speech in order to create a bio poem. • Drill: Create a list of at least five adjectives that describe you.

  24. Drill 48/29 • Homework: All supplies due Friday. See me if there is a problem. Be proactive. • Objective: Students will use the writing process of drafting and peer review in order to complete a rough copy of the bio-poem. • Category A • Drill: Take out your notes from the procedure lesson. • On your notes page answer the following question in a complete sentence. • What is the number one rule in this class? • What does a yellow card mean?

  25. Drill 58/30 • Homework: Enjoy the holiday weekend. If you have not brought your supplies, bring them on Tuesday. • Objective: Students will use the writing process to complete the Bio-poem. Drill: Please take out your supplies. Make sure your name and period is on your binder.
