  3. LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING SCHEDULE • MARK YOUR CALENDAR: MEETINGS WILL RESUME 8-18-11 @ 9:30. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED IF THE MEETING IS CHANGED. GENERALLY, EVERY THREE WEEKS. WE WILL FOCUS MOST OF OUR TIME ON INSTRUCTIONAL IMPROVEMENT.

  4. ADMINISTRATORS’ TRAINING PLEASE RESERVE JUNE 11, 12 & 13, 2012 FOR LEADERSHIP TRAINING. It will be 6 hours per day starting promptly at 7:00 and ending by 2:00. Teambuilding Tuesday.

  5. DEAD PERIOD • Buildings will be closed 6-25-12 through 7-9-12 • Have someone scheduled to work during non-dead period other than the custodian – who can man the desk if during a lunch break, but needs mostly to clean stuff.  This can be you, a counselor, a secretary or clerical, or an informed parent volunteer. • Announce in your e-news or end-of-year communications that there is a dead period, when it is, and remind people to call ahead before dropping by to make sure that someone is present to assist them. • Post a sign on the door at the ending of school with much the same message – your level director will make sure that you have appropriate and consistent signs for the entire district. •   Have a decent an answering machine, keep it updated, and make sure that it is checked and calls returned within 24 hours at all times other than the dead period.  I say this because I understand that elementary principals will still need to be out for meetings or emergencies even though they take vacation during the dead period and they do not have as much staff. • Websites are never closed – This is a great place to put information so people won’t have to come to school to get it – maybe a link to “Summer Needs”

NEW EDUCATOR ORIENTATION • Thursday, July 28, 2011 • SAME FORMAT AS LAST YEAR – NO INTRODUCTIONS • PICTURES AND SHORT BIOGRAPHY WILL BE POSTED ON DISTRICT WEB SITE – PLEASE SUBMIT THE AUTOBIOGRAPHIES TO JOHN ROBERTS BY 8-11-11. THEY WILL CHECK AND GET THEM ON WEB • REQUIRE NEW STAFF MEMBERS TO BE PROFESSIONALLY DRESSED

  7. EXPECTATION: RETAIN ONLY HIGH QUALITY PERSONNEL • OUR JOB IS TO DO OUR BEST TO HELP A NEW TEACHER BE EXCELLENT. IF HE IS NOT, WE MUST NOT GRANT HIM TENURE. • BE HONEST. LET THEM KNOW EARLY THEY MUST IMPROVE. HELP THEM HELP THEMSELVES. DO NOT LEAD THEM ON OUT OF FEAR. • TENURE SHOULD NOT GUARANTEE THE INCOMPETENT OR INTRANSIGENT GET TO KEEP A JOB FOR LIFE. IF AN EXPERIENCED TEACHER IS LAYING DOWN ON THE JOB, HELP HIM UP. IF IT DOESN’T WORK, HELP HIM OUT THE DOOR.

MORE MISCELLANEOUS EXPECTATIONS • PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR FINANCES. • PARENT, STUDENT, AND STAFF SURVEYS WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON NUMBER RETURNED AS WELL AS ACTUAL IMPROVEMENT IN RESULTS. • YOUR SCHOOL WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE SCIENCE FAIR, SPELLING BEE, AND YOUNG AUTHORS (EX. HS). • USING POOR SPOKEN GRAMMAR AND NON-EXISTENT WORDS DOES NOT MAKE ONE A PERSON OF THE PEOPLE. WE ARE EDUCATORS. • USE “WE” AND “OUR” IN PLACE OF “ME”, “MY,” AND “I” AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. WE ARE A TEAM AND THE TEAM IS OUR TEAM, NOT MY TEAM.

  26. STILL MORE MISCELLANEOUS EXPECTATIONS • BE AT REGULAR BOARD MEETING IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING ON AGENDA, YOU CAN LEAVE WHEN YOUR ITEM IS DONE. • WE ARE REALLY ABOUT THE ACADEMIC BOARD MEETING. THIS IS WHERE WE WIN THE PUBLIC. EVERYONE SHOULD BE PRESENT AND PREPARED TO CONTRIBUTE HONEST OPINIONS AND OBSERVATIONS.

  27. DUTY TO REPORT DEPENDENCY, NEGLECT OR ABUSE KRS 620.030(1): Any person who knows or has reasonable cause to believe that a child is dependent, neglected or abused shall immediately cause an oral or written report to be made to a local law enforcement agency or the Kentucky State Police; the cabinet or its designated representative; the Commonwealth’s Attorney or the county attorney; by telephone or otherwise. Any supervisor who receives from an employee a report of suspected dependency, neglect, or abuse shall promptly make a report to the proper authorities for investigation.

  28. NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEES • OVERTIME – AFTER WORKING 40 HOURS IN A WEEK, A NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEE (MOST CLASSIFIED) ARE ENTITLED TO 1 ½ TIMES THEIR HOURLY RATE FOR EACH ADDITIONAL HOUR WORKED. • LUNCH AND BREAKS – NON-EXEMPT PERSONNEL MUST TAKE THEIR LUNCH AWAY FROM THEIR DESKS. LUNCH = ½ HOUR. NO SOONER THAN 3 NOR LATER THAN 5 HOURS AFTER START OF SHIFT. • ARE ENTITLED TO A 10 MINUTE REST PERIOD FOR EACH 4 HOURS WORKED. • FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT – LIVE IT, LOVE IT. IGNORE IT AT YOUR DISTRICT’S PERIL (NOT TO MENTION THREATENED JAIL TIME).

  29. NO PO, NO PAYO ALL – EACH – EVERY SINGLE PURCHASE OF A PRODUCT, SERVICE, OR SUBSCRIPTION MUST HAVE PRE-APPROVAL WITH A SIGNED AND NUMBERED PURCHASE ORDER. THIS PO MUST – OBVIOUSLY – BE DATED BEFORE THE DATE ON ANY INVOICE.

  32. SBDM INTEGRATION • EACH SCHOOL HAS AN SBDM LIAISON WHOSE ROLE IS SIMPLY TO OBSERVE, FIND ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS, OFFER COMMENT/ADVICE, OR HELP AS NEEDED. THEY HAVE NO AUTHORITY OVER COUNCIL. • THE MEMBERS OF YOUR COUNCIL WILL BE INVITED TO THE BCPS DISTRICT ASSEMBLY. THE DISTRICT ASSEMBLY WILL REPLACE COUNCIL OF COUNCILS, FACULTY SENATE, PARENT ADVISORY, AND CLASSIFIED COUNCIL. • ALL SBDM POLICY REVISIONS MUST GO TO BECKY SEXTON FOR REVIEW PRIOR TO FINAL APPROVAL.

  33. BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN TRAINING • ALL EMPLOYEES MUST HAVE THE UPDATE TRAINING. • KIM BUCHANON WILL TRACK THIS TRAINING • ALL NEW HIRES DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR SHALL ATTEND ONE OF THE MONTHLY CLASSES HELD AT THE CENTRAL OFFICE OR COMPLETE ONLINE TRAINING. • LESA BODINE WILL BE SENDING YOU MORE TRAINING SPECIFICS & REMINDERS.

  39. FACILITY USE AGREEMENTS • DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO USE THE FACILITY UNLESS THE AGREEMENT HAS BEEN SIGNED. • YOU SHOULD NEVER SIGN FOR AN INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP. • STEVE KESSINGER HAS PREPARED A PACKET OF INFORMATION WITH DETAILED DIRECTIONS.

  40. BOOSTER CLUB PROJECTS • MUST FOLLOW BOARD PROCEDURES – THEY ARE CLEAR AND SPECIFIC • ANY BOOSTER CLUB OR OUTSIDE ORGANIZATION WISHING TO PURSUE FUNDRAISING EFFORTS FOR FUTURE PROJECTS MUST SUBMIT A LETTER OF REQUEST FOR PRIOR APPROVAL • INFORM YOUR BOOSTERS OF THIS REQUIREMENT AND ASK THEM NOT TO GO OFF ON THEIR OWN – WE HAVE TO FOLLOW THE RULES.

  41. GROUNDS • PLEASE PICK UP TRASH AROUND YOUR BUILDING AND NEAR THE ROAD. • TRIM AND PULL WEEDS AROUND THE BUILDING AND SCHOOL SIGN. • SWEEP THE CURB AREAS. • BLOW GRASS CLIPPINGS OFF OF DRIVE AND CURB. • THE BUILDING SHOULD HAVE A SCHOOL IN SESSION APPEARANCE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

  42. TELEPHONES • PHONES NEED TO BE ANSWERED UNTIL LAST STUDENT HAS TIME TO ARRIVE HOME (or at least 1 hour after dismissal). MORE IS BETTER. • TRAIN STAFF TO ANSWER IN A PLEASANT VOICE, IDENTIFYING THEMSELVES, THE SCHOOL, AND OFFERING ASSISTANCE. “BULLITT COUNTY SCHOOLS. THIS IS SHARLA. HOW MAY I HELP YOU?”

  43. CUSTODIANS • CUSTODIANS ARE NOT TO BE ASSIGNED CAFETERIA OR OTHER SUPERVISORY DUTY. • CUSTODIANS ARE TRAINED PROFESSIONALS AND ARE ABLE TO TAKE MANY ISSUES OFF YOUR HANDS IF YOU WILL DELEGATE AND HOLD ACCOUNTABLE. • OUR BEST CUSTODIANS CONSIDER THEMSELVES THE OWNER OF OUR SCHOOLS, JUST AS OUR BEST EVERYTHING.

  44.
