  4. Exploded View ZTF Technical Meeting Window enclosure Window retainer Vacuum interface board (VIB) Dewar can Back wall Focal plane Window VIB protection plates Thermal links Radiation shield Window stop

  5. Window Enclosure ZTF Technical Meeting Aluminum, non-reflective treatment Filter registers to this surface Enclosure slides over the window and bolts to the Dewar can. Easily attached or removed at any time. This flange bolts to Dewar Section view

  6. Window Retainer and Stop ZTF Technical Meeting Window stop accurately locates the window Delrin window retainer Section view Held in place with standard bolts 12.7mm dia. Delrin stop held with a button head cap screw. Qty 8

  7. Window ZTF Technical Meeting 20kg Atmosphere side Fused Silica, biconcave 490mm 22mm Section view

  8. Faceted Focal Plane Assembly ZTF Technical Meeting 12 CCD packages Cold plate 4 Flexures 2 guiders shown, 4 locations are possible

  9. Exploded view of Focal Plane ZTF Technical Meeting Note the spherical curve formed by the faceted placement of the CCD packages

  10. Cold Plate Facet angle ZTF Technical Meeting Aluminum, machined from a single piece of plate stock 11.5kg 40mm thick Section view Front Back

  11. CCD Package and Flattener Assembly ZTF Technical Meeting Simple Invar frame, non-reflective plating Flattener glued to Invar frame Invar frame fastened to CCD package using existing through holes using a screw and nut Invar frame insulated from CCD package with G-10 sleeve washers e2v CCD231-C6

  12. Flexure ZTF Technical Meeting G-10 Quantity 4 Dewar can attachment hole Radiation Shield mounting hole Cold plate attachment hole

  13. Radiation Shield with Doors ZTF Technical Meeting Gold plated sheet copper, polished The doors seal the Radiation shield after CCD packages are installed. Doors have slots for flex cables The doors snap and lock into place using spring wire Thermal link door not designed yet

  14. Dewar Can ZTF Technical Meeting Aluminum, machined from plate stock, no welding 9kg Double O-ring grooves to cushion window Tapped holes for hoist rings CCD packages are fully accessible with the window removed Section view Extension brackets for Flexure attachment points

  15. Vacuum Interface Board (VIB) ZTF Technical Meeting The O-ring sealing zone is just inside the bolt hole pattern on both sides of the board Previous VIB’s Connectors inside the vacuum KMTNet VIB Cambridge VIB A giant circuit board that crosses the vacuum seal and carries signals from connectors inside the Dewar to connectors outside the Dewar. Connectors outside the vacuum

  16. Thermal Link ZTF Technical Meeting Copper Cold Plate end Cryo-cooler attaches here Cryo-cooler This joint is accessible through a port on the back wall of the Dewar Activated Carbon housing (Getter cups) (38ml each cup)

  17. Back Wall ZTF Technical Meeting Focus hub adapter mounting zone Stainless steel Stiffening ribs Exploded view

  18. Back Wall Ports ZTF Technical Meeting Spare port, KF Spare port, KF Vacuum valve, KF Polycoldcryo-cooler Vacuum gauge port, KF Thermal linkage access port, KF Thermal linkage access port, KF Zeolite Desiccant container, KF Polycoldcryo-cooler Burst disc, MDC, 9-11 PSIG, conflat flange Instrumentation port, KF

  19. Cross-section Detail ZTF Technical Meeting Cold plate Back Wall with ribs Faceted CCD package VIB inside connector Light Radiation shield door Window inside curved surface Window outside surface CCD flex cable Radiation shield Window Retainer VIB Window enclosure VIB O-ring seal Dewar can Double O-ring Window cushion Outside VIB connector VIB protection plate Flexure

  20. Future Work ZTF Technical Meeting VIB redesign Rotate inside connectors on the board 90 degrees Reduce hole quantity and hole size in the board Relocate the outside connectors on the board to a single run on the bottom Design a 4th flexure that is not over determined Simplify thermal links to 2 flex joints and 2 bolted connections Front mask (radiation shield) design Integrate guiders and connectors Integrate heaters and thermal couples on the cold plate Integrate window handling parts Integrate focus hub mounting plate and possible tip – tilt mechanism Integrate precise distance from window and CCD surfaces to focus hub.
