Participation in ODP-specific HEI updates is crucial for mentor development, ensuring mentors stay informed about student-related policies and assessment processes. These updates can take various forms, including formal and informal updates. Starting in September 2012, a brand-new three-year degree-level ODP programme will be launched in Scotland, focusing on both theory and practice. The programme includes interprofessional learning and various assessment strategies, preparing students for the complexities of clinical practice while enhancing collaboration with other health professionals.

Mentorship updates Attendance at an ODP-specific HEI update is an essential element of the cycle of mentor development, because it ensures that the mentor remains current with student-related policies and assessment processes. The update is also an opportunity for the mentor to clarify any issues and develop a link with the HEI. CODP recognises that this may take a variety of forms; for example, • formal updates, • informal updates (which may occur in the working environment) or online updates. (CODP, 2009)
