  6. Types of power supplies installed at BESSY II and MLS < 100W 130 devices made by: BESSY 100 W–1 kW 240 devices made by: BESSY Rohrer (GER) WME (GER) 1 kW–10 kW 50 devices made by: Delta (NL) Danfysik (DK) 10 kW–100 kW 60 devices made by: Danfysik (DK) Jäger (GER) > 100 kW 5 devices made by: Danfysik (DK) Jäger (GER) In The year 2004: 485 power supplies and 1 beamloss per month: MTBF = 40 years POCPA 2010 /K. 7. Upgrade Programm for BESSY II: Topping Up • Today: 3 injections a day • Future (2013): Topping Up • In the Top-Up operation lost electrons are replaced continuously after minutes rather than every eight hours in order to keep a nearly constant beam current.  • A new 50 MeV Linac for Top Up and flexible fill pattern (Operation starts erly 2011) • Sextupole PS for 10 Hz dynamic cromaticity correction in the booster synchrotron (Operation starts end 2010) POCPA 2010 /K. Burkmann-Gehrlein, T.Schneegans

  8. Upgrade Programm for BESSY II: Fast orbit feedback Today: 0.2 Hz transversal global orbit feedback Overall there are 122 corrector magnets installed as auxilliary windings in the 112 sextupole magnets. 48 for horizontal plane 74 for vertical plane POCPA 2010 /K. Burkmann-Gehrlein, T.Schneegans

  9. Two analog readbacks 16 bit resolution. One Slow High precission ADC One 100 kHz ADC Digital controls Digital Status Trigger Setpoint Old Power supplies for the slow (0.2 Hz) transversal orbit feedback Old Corrector PS Power Supplies ROHREr Stability: ±100 ppm ripple +drift 3db bandwidth: <10 Hz CAN-Bus ADA 16 IO8 Interfaceboard Embedded Controller Mains Terminal Analog Setpoint Resolution up to 19 Bit Ext Interlock Terminal + Shunt resistor Magnet + Linear Power Stage Shunt resistor POCPA 2010 /K. 10. Eliminate perturbation sources wherever possible • No Noise is better than Anti-Noise: R.Müller BPM Measurement Caused by switching of muliplexers on the Interfaceboard POCPA 2010 /K. Burkmann-Gehrlein, T.Schneegans

  11. Upgrade Programm for BESSY II: Fast orbit feedback • Future (2012): Fast Orbit Feedback 200 Hz • The concentration of almost 50 experimental stations in the experimental hall increases environmental noise, thereby adversely affecting the resolution and stability of measurement setups.  • Phase I • replacement of all corrector power supplies aims at higher correction speed (20Hz – 60Hz) • Phase II • replace today’s multiplexed analog beam position monitors (BPMs) by parallel processing fast digital units to increase correction precision: POCPA 2010 /K. Burkmann-Gehrlein, T.Schneegans

  12. Two analog readbacks 16 bit resolution. 13. New power supplies for the fast (200 Hz) transversal orbit feedback Transfer function for the complete system: power supply →magnet (auxilliary coils in BESSY II sextupoles ) →vacuum chamber →magnetic field at the place of the e-beam Conclusion: Up to several 100 Hz the correlation is rather linear POCPA 2010 /K. Burkmann-Gehrlein, T.Schneegans

  14. New power supplies for the fast (200 Hz) transversal orbit feedback Output current an voltage: Due to the limited output voltage of 40 V and the inductances of the different loads the output current of 8 A at DC-operation will be limited for AC operation as shown below POCPA 2010 /K. Burkmann-Gehrlein, T.Schneegans
