  3. Do Now: • Why is it important to engage ALL students in lessons? • What are some strategies that you have seen your cooperating teachers use to engage the entire class, and keep their pace on point? • How effectively do you think these strategies worked? Why?

  4. Objectives: By the end of this session Fellows will be able to explain why Cold Call is an effective technique to use to raise student achievement. Fellows will develop a plan to integrate Cold Call into their lesson plans and practice teaching.

  7. Cold Call Key Idea In order to make engaged participation the expectation, call on students regardless of whether they have raised their hands.

  8. How can cold call help you? • Check for understanding • Increase speed in terms of pacing and the rate you cover material. • Allows you to distribute work ( questions) more broadly around the room. • Allows you to distribute work around the room authoritatively.

  9. Principles for using Cold Call. • Cold Call is predictable. • Cold Call is systematic, • Cold Call is positive • Cold Call can be used with hands up or down. • Time the name • Mix it with other engagement techniques like call and response, pepper, etc.
