  1. Graded unit idea pitch Staycations

  2. Analysis of the Brief The brief is to create an hour long show made up of 5 6-8 minute packages with 2 guests present on the day. During the creation of my own 6-8 package I will have to take a number of things into consideration which will be explained further in this presentation.

  3. Presentation Idea My idea for my 6-8 package is to find out how popular or now unpopular it is staying in the UK for holidays I'm going to call my package “Staycation Nation.”

  4. Aim • The Aim of my package is to give people an informative insight into the popularity of holidaying in UK. This saw a dramatic increase during the economic recession but now we’re slowing coming out of it is there still a demand for UK based holidays? • I am hoping that it will entertain the listener and maybe make them think about holidaying in the UK

  5. Radio Station and Target Audience My package is going to be made to fit a BBC Radio 2 topical news item. This will be broadcast to a target audience of the following: The remit of Radio 2 is to be a distinctive, mixed music comedy, readings and social action output and speech service, targeted at a broad audience, appealing to all age groups over 35. It should offer entertaining popular music programmes and speech-based content including news, current affairs, documentaries, religion and arts (taken from http://www.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/services/channels_radio.shtml )

  6. Style It will be informative Light-hearted Topical Upbeat Hopefully be able to get people thinking

  7. How to keep the listener interested • There will be a variety of different interviews with different opinions • There will be a good mix of music and SFX • It will be presenter led so it has a continuous flow • I am hoping to have an outdoor interview with Visit Scotland near the coast.

  8. Package linking • Presenter led package to allow continuity • This will allow a story to flow with a structured beginning, middle and end • There will be relevant SFX which hopefully will make some of the package sound like its near the sea.

  9. Research • I have looked at a number of websites including travel agencies and holiday parks. • I have also been looking at newspaper and magazine articles online. • The reason I came up with the rise and possible fall of staycations is because I found 1 article which stated that in 2009 caravanning in Scotland had seen a 40% rise while in another article published 2010 it stated that holidays to Europe are back on the rise

  10. Potential Interviews Haven Holidays Visit Scotland? Visit England? A major travel agency Someone who already goes on staycations Someone who is potentially interested in going on a staycation? Voxpops?

  11. Music and Sfx Not really thought deeply about music yet but I am looking at using holiday style music e.g. summer holidays, beach boys etc Sfx wise there may be some seaside sfx like seagulls and waves crashing.

  12. How this will fit into the 1hr long show • I think this package will fit into the 1hr long show as it is currently relevant due to the economic recession. • It is also relevant to the target audience of the station as it will be aimed at people who book family holidays i.e. parents. • It will also bring a slight light heartedness to a programme that is dealing with diabetes, media image in females, STDs and hospital radio. I think that because a variety of different topics are discussed which could appeal to a large audience then the listener will be kept entertained and informed.

  13. The magazine • The magazine show will be broadcast to BBC Radio 2 listeners • It will be broadcast on a Sunday afternoon • I think families who are maybe on a Sunday drive out will listen to it. I also think it will appeal to those to like to have lazy Sunday afternoons or those who are preparing Sunday lunch • People will listen to it as it will be informative and hopefully spark discussion

  14. Legalities As the station ID is BBC, their own guidelines will have to be followed (see link below) http://www.bbc.co.uk/guidelines/editorialguidelines/guidelines/ Ofcom's guidelines will also have to be followed (see link below) http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/broadcasting/guidance/programme-guidance/bguidance/ As music is being used, PRS 4 Music and PPL guidelines will also have to be adhered to.

  15. Ethics I will strive to make sure that no comments made are of a defamatory nature and any biased comments are backed up with comments from an opposite angle.

  16. Health and Safety Whilst working in the studio I will make sure that myself and anyone working with me will follow health and safety guidelines. I will look out for loose wires and possible electrocution situations. I will also strive to be safe when out travelling if that is necessary.

  17. Possible Costing Studio time Equipment hire Travel Miscellaneous costings

  18. Possible finish dates? I am hoping to have all interviews recorded, a draft script written and all my music thought of by the end of April. I am hoping to have the whole package finished by 11th May so that I have 2 weeks to prepare with my group for recording the final hour long show.
