Biomes. Terrestrial Biomes. What is a Biome ?. A biome is a large geographical area of distinctive plant and animal groups adapted to that particular environment. The climate and geography of a region determines what type of biome can exist in that region .

  2. What is a Biome? A biome is a large geographical area of distinctive plant and animal groups adapted to that particular environment. The climate and geography of a region determines what type of biome can exist in that region. Major biomes include deserts, forests, grasslands, tundra, and several types of aquatic environments.

  3. Tundra : terrestrialbiome

  4. Scientists call TUNDRA the frozen cold ecosystems found near the North part of the Earth. Winters are LONG AND COLD. Summers are SHORT AND COOL. Long Frozen Short North Cool weather

  5. Animals and plants in the tundra biome: Animals: seals, polar bears, arctic hares, and arctic foxes survive in the long cold winters. Arctic hares Snow owl Polar bear Arctic fox

  6. Deserts: terrestrialbiome.

  7.  There are both hot and cold deserts. Antarctica is the largest desert in the world, while the Sahara in Africa is the largest of the hot deserts. Antartica Desert (cold) Sahara Desert (hot)

  8. Hot and drydeserts • Most Hot and Dry Deserts don't have many plants. • They have some plants. • The animals in deserts can survive under ground. • animals can’t live in the hot sun and heat.   11. Grasslands have few trees, and extensive grasses, and many different small and large animals. • Some of the largest land animals on Earth live in grasslands, including American bison, elephants, giraffes, etc. Bison, elephants, giraffes

  12. Rainforest: terrestrialbiome

  13. The tropical rain forest is a forest of tall trees in a warm region. • Rain forests belong to the tropical wet climate group. • Rainforests now cover the 6% of Earth's land surface. • Scientists think that more than half of all the world's plant and animal species live in tropical rain forests. • Tropical rainforests produce 40% of Earth's oxygen.
