  1. Analyzing Data (e.g., that part of “analyzing data” that is relevant to Research Design)

  2. Overview of the Research Process

  3. Overview of Statistical Process • Pre-Production • Enter Data • Data Screening • Production • Evaluate the Sample • Evaluate the Materials • Evaluate the Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Analyze Research Hypothesis • Analyze alternatives, if they exist • Post-Production • Interpret the Results

  4. Relationship between Research Design & Statistics • (1) You plan statistical analysis based upon your chosen research design • (2) Only combined do you answer research questions • Purpose of research is to answer research questions • Statistics gives you answer about the data (not research questions) • Research Design tells you if data validly pertain to research questions • (3) Statistical results tell you if problems exist, but research design tells you what those problems are • (4) Statistical results tell you if new hypotheses exist, and research design tells you the validity of the hypotheses and/or how to conduct new studies to test the hypotheses

  5. Advanced Source • The Spring Statistics class • Textbook for the course: Discovering Statistics Using SPSS
