  1. After God’s Heart Acts 13:22 “After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.” NASB

  2. David and Saul • David pleased God; Saul didn’t • David intensely worshiped God; Saul could have cared less about worship • David continually sought God’s counsel; Saul rebuffed counsel that came his way • David fought lions, bears, and giants; Saul fought those within his kingdom • David constantly sought God’s will; Saul never enquired of God • Consequently David’s kingdom endured; Saul’s kingdom was taken from him

  3. Characteristics of one after God’s Heart • Those After God’s Heart Are Preoccupied With God.

  4. Psalm 16:8 he said: “I have set the Lord always before me.” Psalm 42:1 he says: “As the deer pants for the streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O Lord.” Psalm 18:1-2 he writes: “I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 23 “The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want.” Psalm 119:57-58 “You are my portion, O Lord…I have sought your face with all my heart.”

  5. Define Worship… Worship is the conscious effort of man seeking to serve, obey, give reverence to, or glorify God. Vine’s dictionary notes, worship is man’s “direct acknowledgment to God, of His nature, attributes, ways and claims” (Vine’s Dictionary, World Publishers, 1971, page 236.)

  6. Worship Is… Worship is purposed; it’s intentional; it’s designed to deliberately ascribe worth and worthiness to God.

  7. Saul’s Indifference1 Samuel 15:1-9 Then Samuel said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you as king over His people, over Israel; now therefore, listen to the words of the Lord. 2 Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way while he was coming up from Egypt. 3 Now go and strike Amalek and utterly destroy all that he has, and do not spare him; but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” 4 Then Saul summoned the people and numbered them in Telaim, 200,000 foot soldiers and 10,000 men of Judah.5 Saul came to the city of Amalek and set an ambush in the valley. 6 Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, so that I do not destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the sons of Israel when they came up from Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. 7 So Saul defeated the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, which is east of Egypt. 8 He captured Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. 9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to destroy them utterly; but everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.

  12. David’s Repentance “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. (2) Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin” (PSA 51:1-2).
