  3. What is a “National Park?” • A national park is a park that is protected because it has important value. • It could be important because it: • 1. Has a rare landform/animal living in it. • 2. Is very beautiful. • 3. Is very natural and unpolluted.

  4. What is a “National Park?” • It usually has a river or lake in it. • It usually has a beautiful landform in it. • It also has different outdoor activities you can do in it!

  5. What is a Landform? • A natural feature of the earth's surface. • Some you may already know: • Lake, river, hill

  6. Types of Landforms • A canyon is a deep valley with steep sides and often with a stream flowing through it. Grand Canyon, USA

  7. Types of Landforms • A waterfall is a place where water from a river flows over a vertical drop or cliff. Niagara Falls, Canada/USA

  8. Types of Landforms • A mountain is a large landform that reaches high above the surrounding land. Mount Everest Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Hunan Tallest mountain in the world!

  9. Types of Landforms • A geyser is a place where water boils, then shoots up into the air! Old Faithful, USA Erupts every 91 minutes!

  12. National Park Activities • Camping When people go camping, they sleep in tents and also make a fire to cook their food.

  13. National Park Activities • Canoeing A canoe is a type of boat with no motor. To use a canoe, you must use a paddle.

  14. National Park Activities • Rock climbing When someone climbs up or across a wall of a mountain.

  15. National Park Activities • Hiking Hiking is an outdoor activity where people walk on beautifulpathways. People often hike on mountains.

Make your own National Park! • My park’s name is Chinada National Park. • My park is located in Hunan Province, China. • My park has a canyon where you can go rock climbing and it also has a river where you can go canoeing. Lastly, it has a waterfall at the top of a mountain that people like to hike to.
