Public Policy vs. Issues Public Policy • Courses of action, regulatory measures, laws, and funding priorities concerning a given problem (issue) in society • Initiated by a governmental entity, or its representatives. • Examples: • Constitutions • Legislative acts (laws) • Judicial decisions Issues • An immediate and unsettled topic or problem in society • Scale: Can be global, national, statewide, and/or local • Can be discussed or addressed by private individuals/groups and through enacting policy • Examples: • See following slides
