  2. Oceans and Climate Heat Capacity is the measure for how fast it takes for a material to heat up or cool down. Water has a high heat capacity. It helps to transport the heats around the world. Oceans and atmosphere are constantly exchanging energies.

  4. Weathers and Climates Weather is the condition of the atmosphere at a specific time. While climate is the weather over a particular region for a long period of time. Weather can be described in temperature, wind speed and direction, air pressure, and moisture (precipitation). Extremes weathers = Hottest in 1922, El Asizia, Libya, 58 Celsius. Coldest in -90 degrees in Vostok, Antarctica in 1988. Precipitation = in some places on earth, there is no rains drops per year, while in

  5. How oceans affect weather Convection is when the warm water heat up air, then the heated air rises. When heated air reaches a cooler level, it falls because it lost its heat. It reheats itself when it falls back down Oceans, atmosphere, and weather all influence each other. El Nino is when warm ocean water near the coast of Peru and Ecuador are warm for a several months. The heated up water causes a current from South America to mid Pacific. It causes smaller organism to move to cooler waters. The whole food chain has to move too. The fishing industries have to cut back during this specific period of time.

  7. The moderating effect of Oceans on Climate Ocean temperatures affects coastal climates. Cold streams from Arctic push the Gulf Streams(warm ocean waters) towards eastward towards British Isles. Coastal part of Norway even in Arctic circles barely experience freezing weather due to the Gulf Stream

  8. The moderating effect of Oceans on Climate continue That is why the winter weathers of BC coastal communities always stay mild. The Pacific Drift brings water to northwest coast of NA. Then Alaska current pushes the Pacific Drift down to B.C’s coast. Winds from the oceans push the warm ocean air over the province. It also keep the weather from being extreme hot in the summer. However, coastal mountains ranges prevent the air from reaching in to the interior province. So, that is why south-eastern BC and Okanagan experiences hotter summers and colder winters.
