Understanding Weird Faith: The Journey from Religion to Relationship with Christ

Discover what makes a good Christian by exploring the difference between religion and a personal relationship with Jesus. Through biblical insights from Luke and Philippians, we learn that pride and despair can stem from relying on human effort. True faith involves knowing and loving Christ intimately rather than simply obeying religious laws. Join us as we delve into the concept of 'weird' faith, emphasizing trust, communication, and community with others who share a faith in Jesus. Are you ready to embrace a life WITH Christ?

  1. Weird Faith

  2. What makes a good christian? • Religion or Relationship? • Luke 18:9-14 (p.800) • Results of religion: • Pride • Despair

  3. with • Luke 5:8-11 • Do you have to earn God’s acceptance? • Live WITH Jesus, not for Jesus – • “with” fulfills “for” • Do you know and love Him personally?

  4. We put no confidence in human effort, though I could have confidence in my own effort if anyone could. Indeed, if others have reason for confidence in their own efforts, I have even more! I was circumcised when I was eight days old. I am a pure-blooded citizen of Israel and a member of the tribe of Benjamin—a real Hebrew if there ever was one! I was a member of the Pharisees, who demand the strictest obedience to the Jewish law. I was so zealous that I harshly persecuted the church. And as for righteousness, I obeyed the law without fault.

  5. I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ. Philippians 3:3-8

  6. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. Philippians 3:8b-9

  7. I trust you • Romans 3:20-22 (p.859) • Religion = human effort to reach God. • Christ = God’s WEIRD way to reach humans. • Faith in Jesus = trust = relationship. • Romans 5:1-11

  8. Weird faith • How do you get closer to a person? • Talk, time, letters, praise, obedience • Tell others about life with Him • Spend time with others who know and love Him.
