  2. 6th Decade Plan Sixth Decade Plan “UW will be a leader among its peer public institutions in North America in engaging its student body intellectually, culturally and socially.”

  3. Retention Rate Increase 1st to 2nd year retention rates by 1% per year over the next three years. Retention rate for the 2008 1st year cohort in 2009 was 89%.

  4. Challenge Provide a more engaging and supportive environment for an increasingly diverse student body.

  5. Diverse student body, diverse needs More mature applicants are returning to school, more Aboriginal youth are pursuing higher education, more new Canadians and first-generation Canadians are applying to university, more international students are choosing to study in Canada, so incoming student cohorts are more diverse than ever. • Academica Group

  15. Student Communication • The SSO's role as an information resource and communications hub for students is critical. • Coordination of messaging… “just enough, just in time” rather than “just in case” • Online and in person

  16. Focus – Next Six Months • Ongoing consultation and communication • Finalize budget, space and staffing plans…begin implementation • Implementation of revamped new student transition program beginning in July
