  1. TEAMBUILDING PROMOTING UNITY WITHIN YOUR ORGANIZATION Debbie Baker

  2. My Confession… At times I find that I have cared more for: 1. Production and the needs of the institution Than for people and the relationship we have with them 2. Policies of the institution Than for people and the relationship we have with them 3. Pride and power Than for people and the relationship we have with them

  3. My realization… I have not always been the kind of leader I should be… I recognize my need of a deeper knowledge of the ways and means that Jesus used in dealing with people… I recognize my need of deeper study of God’s word and the principles outlined there…

  4. My Journey To be more like Jesus in my dealings with employees… To study scripture more carefully in regard to the principles we will find there… To follow the principles I find…

  5. Scott Jeffrey asks… So why should you go through the labor of building an effective team? It is a legitimate question when we often find ourselves fighting employees with healthy egos, those motivated by self-gratification or not motivated at all. www.scottjeffrey.com

  6. Reason #1 Effective teams achieve better results… Fully functional teams drive toward compelling objectives and make them happen. Put simply, effective teams provide your organization with the ultimate competitive advantage. (This is reason enough!)

  7. John 17:23 • 23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

  8. Reason #2 Effective teams create a more enjoyable workplace… We spend a large percentage of our lives at work. A more pleasurable vocation leads to a more enjoyable life. Executives on high-functioning teams enjoy working with and uplifting each other.

  9. Ps. 133 • 1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! 2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes. 3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

  10. Reason #3 Effective teams conduct engaging and productive meetings, but… “If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings”. Dave Barry

  11. 90% of a project is planning the other 10% is implementation of that plan… Meetings demand the majority of the executive’s time, but meetings are often a waste of time. Able to engage in spirited dialogue without a fear of conflict, effective teams creatively move toward a desired goal, leading to more productive meetings.

  12. Reason #4 Effective teams increase morale…An effective team has many of the qualities of a harmonious family. With the genuine drive to support one another, effective teams stick together even in difficult times (both personal challenges and down economies).

  13. Romans 15:5 5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6 so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  14. Reason #5 Effective teams are more creative… Curtailing a lot of the bureaucratic nonsense that impedes many major corporations (think posturing and office politics), effective teams are more likely to innovate and arrive at more creative solution to industry problems.

  15. Reason #6 Effective teams facilitate greater job security… As each team member works toward a shared vision, each executive strives to give his or her best work. When the team wins, the business wins.

  16. Reason #7 Effective teams improve personal performance… In an open and honest environment, team members playfully challenge and keep each other accountable. Effective teams inspire the best in each of us. Increased performance is its own reward but also tends to provide financial benefits in the future.

  17. Status and Ego Inattention to results Avoidance of Accountability Low Standards Lack of Commitment Ambiguity Fear of Conflict Artificial Harmony Invulnerability Absence of Trust Recognizing dysfunction…

  18. If any one of these levels are allowed to flourish, the entire team is in jeopardy. Looking these points a different way you might say that a well functioning team, Trusts one another, engage in unfiltered conflict around ideas, they commit to decisions and plans of action, they hold one another accountable for delivering against those plans, they focus on the achievement of collective results. 5 Dysfunctions of a Team

  19. Examples of Teambuilding… Team building activities can be lengthy or rather short. Most effective activities take approximately 45 minutes including a debrief period where the activity and subsequent insights can be fleshed out.

  20. Mission Accomplished Learning how each team member processes information, attacks a problem and shares their experience helps everyone accomplish more and find fulfillment through the journey.

  21. Look not on the outward… 1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

  22. EPHESIANS 4 1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

  23. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8 This is why it says: "When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men." 9 (What does "he ascended" mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions?

  24. 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

  25. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
