  3. The Battle of St. Denis • When the militant group of the Patriotes, mainly made up of Habitant, came into battle with British army • In the first battle of St. Denis the rebel forces won • In the next battle, which was two days later, the rebels were destroyed by the British

  4. Battle of St. Eustache • Happened two weeks after St. Denis • St. Eustache was considered a stronghold for the Patriote • The Battle was won by the British • Patriotes suffered: • 58 deaths • 60 homes burned down Ended the first rebellion

  5. The Second Rebellion • The second rebellion happened November 1838 • This time the Patriotes have not only the British but as the Iroquois who teamed with them. • British used more force to send warning to any other rebellions • Cost to the Patriotes: • 850 arrested • 12 hanged • 58 deported to the Penal colony of Australia

  7. Montgomery Tavern • One of Mackenzie’s Lieutenants decided to attack Toronto three days earlier then the planned December 7th attack • The event tipped the Tories off to the attack • The change of the date did not reach everyone and numbers were limited

  8. December 7th Attack • Mackenzie’s rag tag army was met by a group of volunteer loyalist forces • Went against Mackenzie’s plans of the military being too busy in Lower Canada • Resulted in the end of the Rebellion in Upper Canada • Although after fleeing to the US Mackenzie led small attacks along the boarder
