  7. Options Continued… • Communications and tools • Instructor • Help • Although there are many tabs to click on the student needs to use deductive thinking to decide where they should go first…

  8. Where should you go first?? • The first place the student should visit is the Class Sessions tab. The instructor will load all of the information needed for that week and the student should be able to access any information from there. The instructor will place homework assignments, reading assignments, quizzes and tests in the Class Sessions tab.

  9. Ivy Tech Blackboard 9.1 This screen is an example of what the student should see in the Class Sessions section of Blackboard 9.1

  10. What should I do if there is nothing in class sessions? • If there is no content in the Class Sessions tab look to the left side of the screen and click on the Announcements tab. • Your instructor will use this tab as a message board for any changes, mistakes or other information that she/he needs to make available to you. • If there is no announcement click on the Instructor tab.

  11. Instructor tab? • The Instructor tab is a place where you the student can go to get the contact information for the instructor that is teaching your class. • The instructors name, email address and contact information will be located here. • Your instructor is here to help! Contacting them and having open communication is the key to success!

  12. How do I take a test or quiz? • Taking a test or quiz on Blackboard 9.1 should be an easy task. • Go to the Class Sessions tab and click on the current week. • There will be a “test” link within the class session. • Click on the test and answer the questions. • Don’t forget to hit “submit” when finished

  13. How do I see my grade? • Each course in Blackboard has a Grade Book tab. This is where the student will find their grade. • Click the Grade Book tab anytime to see how you are doing in class. Note: Remember that not every grade in the class is automatically uploaded after a test. If you have turned in a project etc. that needs graded the instructor will have to manually input your grade. This may take time. Be patient!

  14. How do I participate in the Discussion board? • A student will receive a notice about discussion board activity. • Each class on Blackboard 9.1 will have a Discussion Board tab. • Click on the Discussion tab on the left hand side bar. • Once you are in the Discussion Board area you will see one or more discussion threads.

  15. How to start a Discussion Forum • To start a discussion thread the student will need to first create a Discussion Forum. Click on “create a forum” and fill out the information. This will include: • Name of forum • Description • Then hit the “submit” button.

  17. How do I create a discussion thread? • After you have created the discussion forum you must create a discussion thread. • First, go back into the forum you just created. Click on “create a thread”. At this point you will again name your discussion. • In the message box is where the student will put the information they are sharing. Think of this as a long text message with proper spelling and punctuation. This will act as a place to share thoughts and where others will “write back” responses.

  18. Will the Instructor be able to see what I am doing on Blackboard 9.1? • The answer is yes. The instructor can see every time you log in and out. • They can also see what you have accessed and all of your discussions are time stamped. • Tests and quizzes are also archived here and the instructor can access them and answer your questions and challenges. • Other students on the other hand CANNOT see anything other than the public discussions.

  19. Review • Blackboard has many uses such as: • Grades • Tests and quizzes • Discussion boards • Surveys • Communications • Information on classes and instrutors • Help information
