  2. Start Practicing! • URL: http://muw.blackboard.com • Always allow blocked contents (popups) • Login: (MUW ID) 950 _ _ _ _ _ _ • Password: Your 6 digit birthday • Fall 2010 course are already there • (Spring shells will be automatically created & populated for all classes)

  3. Open a Course and Begin Click on yellow bar & Display Blocked Content Click on a course to open it Demo

  4. Monitor Class Roll (Users) • Manually dropping a student (user): • Check the box to the left of student’s name • Click Remove Users from Course Go to Control Panel > Users and Groups > Users

  5. Course Layout Edit Mode Toggle: Off = Student View On = Instructor Edit Course Menu Select desired Modules Demo

  6. Course Menu List View Folder View Display in a window Refresh Re-order List Add Menu Item (We will do this now) Empty Items Link Options: Rename, Hide or Show, & Delete Re-order List

  7. Add Menu Item (Create Content Area)  Note: This box is not yet checked Go to Plus Sign > Create Content Area > Name it > Submit

  8. Click to Open New Menu Item Click on new item title The Projects area opens, (although it is still empty) So the next step will be to build the content Recall: Use Action button to Show/Hide

  9. Load Content into Menu Item Go to Build Content > Create > Item

  14. Notification Dashboard List of your courses User adds modules to show as desired Next, click on a course to open Modules can be closed, replaced, collapsed and repositioned Example: The What’s New Module scans your courses and shows all updates

  15. Class Dashboard Ensure Edit Mode is ON Instructor provides content for the dashboard Expand Course Tools under Course Mgmt – Control Panel Next, let’s add an announcement, a calendar event, and a task

  16. Add an Announcement • Click on Announcements in the Control Panel • Note: Announcement page appears • Click on Create Announcement button

  19. Add a Calendar Event • Click on Course Calendar in the Control Panel • Course Calendar page opens • Navigate to the desired date • Click on Create Event button

New Collaboration Tools • Blogging Tool • Configured at course level or group level] • Instructor controls who can post or comment • Instructor can monitor who is participating • Journal Tool • Designed more for one-on-one communication • Instructor to student • Example: Personal reflections on case studies

Group Management • Create any # of groups • Automatically or manually enroll groups • Enter different tasks for each group • Example: Go to Users & groups > groups > Create Group Set > manual enroll > name & describe each group & choose tasks > enter # of groups > Submit. Then Edit Group Set Enrollments to select students for each group

Assignments Feature • Replaces the unpopular “digital drop box” to upload assignments in previous Blackboard version • Created assignments automatically integrate into the Grade Center • All assignments can be downloaded at one time in a zipped file • BB automatically labels each assignment with students’ names

  31. Departing Tip • To alleviate compatibility issues • Require documents to be saved as • Rich text (*.rtf), or • Plain text (*.txt) • Also, documents can be saved as .pdf files • Example: a PowerPoint presentation • .pdf files will open on any computer
