  2. Introduction • Every student at Hernandez will be responsible to complete a science fair project. • The science fair project takes a lot of work and time so it is important to complete it over an extended period of time….NOT ONE NIGHT!!!

  3. This Year’s Theme • Bringing Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics Home.

  4. Components • Every Science Fair Project will include: • An experiment (not a demonstration) • A presentation (PowerPoint/Display) • A written report (3-5 pages)

  5. Science Fair Tips • Follow the timeline provided by your teacher to ensure you finish on time and you are not overwhelmed! • Follow the principles for scientific investigation (scientific method) : • Observation, Purpose, Hypothesis, Procedures (Experiment), Results (Data & Analysis), and Conclusion. • Save all information you research on a flash drive or Google drive!

  6. Variables • Independent Variable-this is the manipulated variable. The 1 thing you change in the experiment. • Dependent Variable-this is the responding variable. It’s what we measure! What is the response to the change? • Constant-this is what we keep the same or keep from changing.

  7. Review Contract • Pass Out Contracts to Students!

  8. Review Timeline • Pass out timelines/highlight important dates!

  9.   10. First Due Date • On Friday September 6ththe following is to be turned in to your teacher for review: • Science Fair Contract signed by student & parent/guardian • Science Fair Project Title with a brief explanation on what you plan to do…remember you cannot do a demonstration, you must be TESTING and MEASURING something.
