Managing Webpages. Managing the pages on your website is essentially a circular process of the following steps: You can begin anywhere. SeaMonkey to create or edit HTML files. FTP to upload files to public_html directory. SAVE HTML file for later editing and/or revision.

  2. SeaMonkeyto createor edit HTMLfiles FTP to uploadfiles topublic_html directory SAVE HTMLfile for laterediting and/orrevision SeaMonkeyto view file

  3. SeaMonkey • Open and view the file you want to work on • “You will always use the latest file!” • Use command FILE / SAVE PAGE ASto save the file to your disk[Web Page, HTML only]

  4. SeaMonkey • FILE / EDIT PAGE & Edit the page in SeaMonkey[or some other program that can create & edit HTML files] • Change all text content, headings, etc. • Change images (pictures and graphics) • Adjust appearance (e.g., FORMAT / BACKGROUND or Theme)

  5. Replace images and replace content

  6. SeaMonkey SAVE AS • When finished editing webpage, useFILE / SAVE AS to save your revised file to disk • Control three things: • 1. The location the file will be stored in • 2. The name of file (7 letters or less) • 3. The format of the file

  8. FTP using SSH Secure File Transfer Client • You will be prompted to Log In. Enter • UserID: your Lennon account name • Password: your secret password • Click OK to make connection

  9. Log-in n.b.: Faculty e-mail is on Zimmer Student e-mail is on Lennon

  17. On Lennon, Click public_html folder • All your web files must be in the same directory or folder • The name of that folder in your Lennon account is public_html • Find that folder name and double-click on it • The active directory will then be public_html

  18. Click on public_html directory

  19. File Transfers • The lower window is your local computer[be sure that directory that has your files is the one open] • The upper window is the host Lennon computer with a listing of all files • Simply “drag and drop” file names from Lower to Upper to Upload • Simply “drag and drop” file names from Upper to Lower to Download

  20. Distant Host Files “Drag” from Your ……… Your Files
