  2. Introduction • Hi my name is Tom and I am from Devon in the UK and I enjoy creating music but I need to sharpen up my Production techniques , which is why I am taking this course so here we go !

  3. Pre-ProductionThe Project Checklist • 1. Name your Project / Check the project location • 2. Digital Audio Preferences • 3. Recording File type • 4. Hardware Setting • 5. Buffer Size

  4. My DAW • I am using Ableton Live 8

  5. Name your Project Please note Ableton Live automatically creates a New Project (Live Set)Untitled so Name your project check location and save

  6. Check location Rename and Save

  7. Digital Audio preferences After clicking Options / Preferences / Audio , set the Sampling Rate to 48000 Khz. This is commonly used in music production and higher quality than the default 44100 Khz

  8. Digital and audio preferences After clicking Options / Preferences / Record, set the File Type to Wav and the Bit Depth to 24

  9. Hardware Settings and Daw Configurations Click back to Preferences / Audio and click Audio Device

  10. Hardware Settings and Daw Configurations In this case my Audio Device Interface is a Zoom R16 R24 there are many others like Roland , M audio etc. , so I click on that in order that my Daw and Interface are connected

  12. Hardware Settings and Daw Configurations • Input Configuration • Here we have the option to choose either mono or stereo inputs depending on what you are recording • ie Synth’s stereo • Guitar mono

  13. Hardware Settings and Daw Configurations • Output configuration • Both are chosen so you have choice

  14. Buffer size • Click on Hardware Setup • Set your Buffer Size to 128 samples as this will provide Low Latency whilst recording plug ins and increase when necessary during post production mixing to 1024 samples
