Commercial Building Energy Usage in California • Over 5 billion sq/ft • 38% is power usage and 25% is gas consumption • 75% of electric end uses are lighting, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation
Moving to Zero Net Energy Buildings in California California goals: • 100% new commercial buildings are ZNE by 2030 • 50% of existing buildings are ZNE by 2030 Visionary Strategies for EE
Active ZNE Action Plan Strategies (2010-2012) Goal 1 - New Construction Goal 2 - Existing Building Lead by Example: Governments and Corporations commit to benchmarking and commissioning Lower threshold for existing building codes Carbon labeling and benchmarks Making the business case Improve plug load technologies • Move toward ZNE codes by 2030 • Expand T20 and T24 • Establish a “Path to Zero” campaign
