  5. Urban Water Supply Status • 16 Public Waterworks are in operations - 2 Small scale system - 6 Old system - 8 New system (Target of Capacity Building Project) • 60 Private Operators have been given licenses

  7. Water Supply and Sanitation Policy Royal Government of Cambodia’s policy (CMDG) aim to improve the living standard by providing safe water supplies and sanitation services for living in a cleaning, healthy and sustainable environment.

  8. Urban Water Supply Policy(continue) 1- Improved water supply sector (set target 80% at year 2015) 2- Provided opportunity to private sector participation 3- Independent (create regulatory body)

Drinking Water Quality Standard 1- To ensure that drinking water will be safe in the future, that there are no health risks to the public. 2- To serve as a basis for design & planning of water supply treatment. 3-To provide a benchmark for assessing long-term trends in the performance of the water supply system.

  11. Drinking Water Quality Standard (Continue) 51 Parameters: bacteriology, inorganic, organic, physical & chemical parameters.

Drinking Water Quality Standard (Continue) 1- Bacteriology, Coliform and E. coli or Thermotolerant have total 2 parameters. 2- Inorganic Constituents have total 12 parameters. 3- Organic Constituents have total 21 parameters. 4- Physical & Chemical Quality have 16 parameters. 5- Small Scale Water Supply have 6 parameters

Development of HR on Urban Sector The project on capacity building for water supply system in Cambodia (phase 2): 1- Grant from JICA 2- Duration 2007 to 2011 3- Target on public water supply sector 4- 5 subjects for main training, there are: - Treatment Plants - Electrical facility - Water Quality - Mechanical facility - Distribution Network

  14. Urban Water Supply Challenges • Dry season water shortage in several Provinces: Sihanouk Ville, Siem Reap, Kampong Cham, Battambong, ... • Water sources degradation from domestic wastes. • Network bacteria contamination, because of old pipeline. • The blooming of the private sector with a lack of experience and education. • No EIA for small scale water supply projects
