  2. Course Outline: • The course is split evenly between practical coursework and a written exam (50%/50%) • The coursework will be taught from September – March. • The exam preparation will go through the whole of year 12. • Time management is very important!

(G321) Practical Coursework: • You will work in groups of between 2 and 4 people – the final mark is individual. • You will have to research your chosen genre. • Plan and carry out your filming. • Edit your film to include a soundtrack etc. • Evaluate your final product. • It is only the actual film that is a group product – the research, planning and evaluation is all individual... • You will blog as you go, time management skills are vital here...

(G322) Exam Outline: Section A – Textual Analysis & Representation. • You will be shown a 5 minute clip of a TV drama and must analyse with a particular focus on an area of representation. • You will watch the clip 4 times and can take notes on different elements (sound, shots etc) • Focus will be one of seven areas of representation: gender, sexuality, disability, age, ethnicity, class/status & regional identity.

(G322) Exam Outline: Section B – Institutions & Audiences • One question to respond to on the film industry. • You will be prepared for this throughout the As course by studying specific case studies. • You will be prepared to demonstrate understanding of contemporary institutional processes of production, distribution, marketing and exchange/exhibition at a local, national or international level as well as British audiences’ reception and consumption.

  7. In pairs deconstruct the magazine article you have been given. Consider: Identify: Target audience • Colours • Choice of model(s) • Composition • Layout • Fonts

  8. Summer Task: • Record an episode of a TV Drama of your choice. • Watch the opening 5 minutes and select an area of representation to focus on. (You will need to watch it multiple times!) • Prepare a presentation on how the opening 5 minutes portray your chosen area.
