  2. NJROTC • It is a high school citizenship development course built on a military model. • It is a high school course, not a club, and yields graduation credit. • It includes academic course material as well as military drill and athletics. • It has an extra-curricular outreach which exposes cadets to competition as well as orientation visits to military installations and institutions of higher learning. • It is a leadership development course which allows cadets to learn about and practice leadership techniques and methods. • By its nature, the program helps cadets learn responsibility and discipline by leading the unit and their peers. • Each unit is taught by retired Navy, Marine Corps and/or Coast Guard officers and senior enlisted employed by the local school system. • The basic unit has one retired officer and one senior enlisted (E6-E9), at least one of which must be Navy. Additional instructors may be authorized if there are more than 150 cadets.
