  7. We Can Rely on God 2 Samuel 5:1-5 Psalm 37

  8. We Can Rely on God • What do you most rely on for communication – e-mail, texting, cellphone, landline, snail mail, something else? • Why do you rely on it? • Do you rely on God? • Think about one of your children. How do they need to rely on God right now?

  9. 2 Samuel 5:1-5 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, "Look, we are your bone and flesh. For some time, while Saul was king over us, it was you who led out Israel and brought it in. The LORD said to you: It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over Israel.” So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and at Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.

  10. Order of Events

  11. Psalm 37 Do not fret because of the wicked; do not be envious of wrongdoers, for they will soon fade like the grass, and wither like the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security. Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. He will make your vindication shine like the light, and the justice of your cause like the noonday. Be still before the LORD, and wait patiently for him; do not fret over those who prosper in their way, over those who carry out evil devices.

  12. How do we know God is reliable? • David relied on God because God’s Word came true (David was anointed as king and became king) • We also rely on God because God’s Word came true. • Jesus Christ, God’s Word made flesh, died on the cross and rose again so you would have the truth of God’s love for you to rely on every day of your life.

  13. Do you rely on God? • Why is it difficult sometimes to rely on God? • How do your children need to rely on God right now?
